Design Engineer
Type: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Staff Engineer
Supervises: None
Working Location: Onsite-Indianapolis, IN
Description
• Develop and design custom products within customer-based parameters
• Develop improvements to existing products
• Provide technical support to sales team members and customers
• Responsible for knowing Echo's product lines, in-house manufacturing abilities and how products are used
• Understand and comply with Echo's Quality Policy while continually looking to improve upon the quality of the company
• Adhere to a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
• Design (70%)
o Analyze opportunities to determine if customer requirements can be met
o Design products and develop solutions that meet customer requirements
o Support across multiple departments during product development and launch
o Resolve cases related to opportunities and products
o Use Salesforce CRM to manage and document information related to opportunities
o Meet or exceed individual and departmental goals and metrics to include, but not limited to, 1st pass rating, productivity standards, time-based metrics
o Develop and execute test plans based on project needs
o Understand and use various pieces of lab equipment for part validation
• Customer Service (20%)
o Present the best first impression possible to our customers in accordance with the Echo Way
o Assist sales team members and customers as needed in answering technical questions about products, capabilities, specifications, or other specific inquiries on current, future, or past orders
o Safeguard customer property sent as samples to include intellectual property, drawings, and prints
o Work with engineering team members to ensure production is completed in a timely manner
• Research and Development (10%)
Seek and develop new and improved materials, tools, and production methods to
o produce current and future products and add new capabilities to the company
o R&D improvements will add new products, reduce costs, increase efficiency, enhance quality, and enhance customer satisfaction
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a technical field required
• Minimum of 3 years in design or related field
• Minimum of 2 years experience using design software such as SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Experience using a CRM such as Salesforce
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 10% for customer and operation site visits.
Additional Preferences
• Knowledge of coatings and finishes
• Knowledge and experience with manufacturing processes (injection molding, compression molding, extrusion, die cutting, converting)
• Knowledge and experience of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stacks
• Knowledge of materials, specifically thermoplastics, elastomers, foams, adhesive tapes
• Knowledge and experience with 3D printing technologies (SLS,SLA, Polyjet, FDM)
• Knowledge and experience in automotive, heavy machinery, and metal finishing industries
