Biomedical Design Engineer Internship information

What does a biomedical design engineer intern do?

A Biomedical Design Engineer Intern assists in the development and testing of medical devices and healthcare technologies. Their responsibilities may include creating prototypes, conducting research, performing data analysis, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to solve medical challenges. Interns often use computer-aided design (CAD) software, participate in product testing, and help ensure that devices meet regulatory and safety standards. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in both engineering and healthcare innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a biomedical design engineer intern?

To thrive as a Biomedical Design Engineer Intern, you need a background in biomedical engineering or a related field, with knowledge of engineering principles, biology, and medical device design. Familiarity with CAD software, prototyping tools, and regulatory standards such as ISO 13485 or FDA guidelines is typically expected. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication skills make candidates stand out in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments. These competencies are crucial for developing safe, innovative biomedical solutions that meet both technical and regulatory requirements.

What types of projects do biomedical design engineer interns typically work on?

Biomedical Design Engineer Interns often participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop prototypes, conduct product testing, and assist with the design of medical devices or components. These projects usually involve using CAD software, collaborating with engineers and clinicians, and conducting research to solve real-world healthcare challenges. Such hands-on experience allows interns to build technical skills, understand regulatory requirements, and gain valuable insights into the medical device development lifecycle—preparing them for future roles in biomedical engineering.

What is the difference between Biomedical Design Engineer Internship vs Biomedical Equipment Technician?

Our talented team of 650+ professionals delivers integrated planning, design, engineering, and construction solutions.
Design Southeast Michigan's Future From a Pretty Cool Office
MSG is growing, and we're looking for a motivated Civil Design Engineer with 0-2 years of experience and solid Autodesk Civil 3D skills to join our Detroit, MI office - which, fair warning, has serious industrial character. Over six months, you'll take part in a hands-on curriculum covering professional development, business acumen, and project delivery - including case studies, simulations, and role-play exercises - covering topics like project economics, communication, and leadership fundamentals. It all wraps up with an in-person capstone event where you'll present your work and map out your goals for the year ahead. Your Future Starts With A Plan.
Develop design drawings and plans using Autodesk Civil 3D, including:

  • Make sure every deliverable meets municipal, county, and state standards
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • EIT preferred
  • 1-3 years of civil/site design experience - recent grads with strong internship or co-op experience are encouraged to apply
