Job description
The Supervisor, Biomedical Maintenance & Medical Asset Management is responsible for leading and executing the end-to-end biomedical maintenance program and lifecycle management of medical equipment supporting Carnival Corporation's global Health Services operations.
This is a hands-on supervisory role that includes performing and overseeing preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and annual servicing of shipboard medical equipment, while also managing the Miami-based biomedical depot and asset inventory operations. The role ensures all medical assets are safe, compliant, operationally ready, and accurately tracked.
The Supervisor works closely with shipboard medical teams, logistics, supply chain, and external service vendors to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and standardize biomedical engineering practices across the fleet.
Essential Functions:
Lead Biomedical Maintenance Operations
Perform hands-on preventive maintenance, calibration, diagnostics, and repair of medical equipment across depot and shipboard environments.
Lead annual shipboard biomedical servicing visits, ensuring all equipment meets operational readiness, safety, and performance standards.
Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and support corrective maintenance both onsite and remotely.
Ensure all servicing aligns with OEM/AEM requirements and safety expectations.
Provide appropriate on the job training to junior technicians and staff
Manage Shipboard Asset Inspection & Lifecycle Oversight
Conduct annual end-to-end equipment reviews across the fleet, validating inventory accuracy, functionality, and maintenance status.
Execute incoming inspection, commissioning, and decommissioning of medical devices.
Provide repair vs. replace recommendations based on asset condition, lifecycle, and operational risk.
Drive standardization of equipment types, configurations, and maintenance practices.
Oversee Miami Biomedical Depot & Inventory Operations
Manage day-to-day operations of the biomedical depot, including staging, storage, repair, and dispatch of equipment.
Ensure proper handling, tracking, and storage conditions for sensitive medical devices.
Maintain inventory control for biomedical assets, spare parts, and consumables to support fleet readiness.
Coordinate with logistics for equipment shipment to/from vessels and global locations.
Compliance, Documentation, Training & Program Tracking
Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and asset records.
Track key performance indicators such as PM completion, downtime, and repair trends.
Support audit readiness and ensure adherence to internal quality and documentation standards.
Provide demonstrations and(or) instructional material to medical staff on the proper, safe use of devices.
Vendor Coordination & Service Partner Management
Coordinate with OEMs and third-party vendors for advanced repairs, technical support, and parts procurement.
Monitor vendor performance and escalate issues impacting equipment reliability or turnaround times.
Support warranty recovery, contract compliance, and service optimization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Scope: This role has a global operational scope, supporting both shore-based biomedical depot functions in Miami and shipboard medical operations across the fleet. The position plays a critical role in ensuring fleetwide medical equipment readiness, bridging technical execution, asset management, and logistics coordination.
Problem solving: Requires hands-on technical troubleshooting of biomedical equipment across diverse environments, often with limited resources while onboard vessels. The role must balance planned maintenance schedules with urgent repairs, diagnose repeat equipment failures, and develop practical solutions that minimize operational disruption.
Impact: Directly impacts crew and guest safety, clinical readiness, and regulatory confidence by ensuring all medical equipment is functional, calibrated, and available when needed. The role also influences cost efficiency and asset longevity through proactive maintenance and lifecycle management.
Leadership: The role requires manager-level operational leadership within a matrixed shore-ship environment. While the role does not provide day-to-day supervision onboard, it holds functional leadership responsibility for Fleet L&D Managers and for the effectiveness of the shipboard L&D / TES workforce, including how Learning Resource Centers (LRCs) are positioned, supported, and utilized to deliver training.
Leadership: Acts as a working supervisor leading by example through hands-on technical execution while overseeing a small team. Requires the ability to coordinate cross-functionally across clinical, logistics, and vendor stakeholders, especially during shipboard servicing activities.
For all roles:
Knowledge: Understanding of workplace policies and procedures / Familiarity with team collaboration tools and techniques.
Skills: Strong time management and organizational skills
Abilities: Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance / Capacity to be punctual and meet deadlines / Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team / Demonstrated professionalism in all interactions and tasks.
Essential/Minimum qualifications:
Associate degree (or higher) in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field, OR equivalent military technical training
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certificaiton or equivalent preferred
Valid driver's license and ability to obtain/maintain a passport for international travel.
Essential experience required
5+ years of experience performing hands-on biomedical equipment maintenance (preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair) under minimal supervision.
Previous in-hospital experience with wide range of equipment modalities, including X-Ray, strongly preferred
Ability to work independently in remote or shipboard environments, including travel-based assignments
Strong documentation discipline with experience maintaining service records and maintenance logs.
Travel: More than 50% with shipboard travel likely
Work Conditions: Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs, projects, or operations.
Physical Demands: Requires regular movement throughout company facilities.
