What jobs can you do with biomechanics?

Biomechanics professionals can work in fields such as forensic engineering, sports science, rehabilitation, and medical device design. They analyze human movement, injury mechanisms, and structural forces, often using tools like motion capture and finite element analysis. These roles typically require strong analytical skills and knowledge of biology, physics, and engineering principles.

What does a forensic biomechanical engineer do?

A forensic biomechanical engineer analyzes how forces and impacts cause injuries or failures in accidents, often reconstructing events to determine causes. They use knowledge of biomechanics, accident reconstruction tools, and laboratory testing to provide expert testimony in legal cases involving injuries or structural failures.

What is the difference between Biomechanics Forensic Engineering vs Forensic Engineer?

AspectBiomechanics Forensic EngineeringForensic Engineer
CredentialsEngineering degree, biomechanics certificationEngineering degree, specialized forensic certifications
Work EnvironmentLaboratory, accident sites, courtroomsCrime scenes, accident sites, courtrooms
Industry UsageAccident reconstruction, injury analysisLegal cases, accident investigations

Biomechanics Forensic Engineering focuses on analyzing physical injuries and accident biomechanics, often requiring biomechanics expertise. Forensic Engineers have broader roles in investigating various types of accidents and legal cases. While both work in legal and investigative settings, biomechanics forensic specialists emphasize injury mechanics, whereas forensic engineers cover a wider range of accident types.

What jobs can you get as a biomechanical engineer?

A biomechanical engineer can work in fields such as injury analysis, product design, and rehabilitation engineering, often in research labs, healthcare settings, or manufacturing environments. Common roles include forensic biomechanical analyst, injury biomechanics consultant, and research scientist, requiring skills in physics, biology, and computer modeling. Certifications in biomechanics or engineering software can enhance job prospects.

What are some jobs that engineers would do in the field of biomechanics?

Biomechanics forensic engineers analyze human movement and injury mechanisms to determine causes of accidents or injuries, often working in accident reconstruction, product safety testing, or injury prevention. They use tools like motion analysis software and may collaborate with medical professionals, law enforcement, or legal teams to provide expert testimony or reports.

Job description

You have a Ph.D. in an Engineering discipline and Bioengineering/Biomechanics experience involving human body kinematics and kinetics or injury research. You want to use your training, education, and experience in a new and meaningful way.

You are already an expert. Robson Forensic will train you to be a forensic expert.

As a Biomechanical Engineering Forensic Expert, you will:

  • Apply scientific and engineering principles of bioengineering and biomechanics to investigate incidents involving claimed injuries/fatalities due to an event.
  • Analyze and evaluate the technical and scientific aspects of incidents, injuries, and medical device failures.
  • Write clear, scientifically sound reports.
  • Provide expert testimony.

You will delve into the technical and scientific aspects of incidents, determining how and why an injury occurred from an engineering standpoint. You will analyze the forces and motions involved to figure out if the alleged injuries are consistent with the event. Areas of investigation include injury biomechanics/orthopedic biomechanics applied to events such as vehicle collisions, sports & recreation, occupation, assaults, falls, etc. This role offers you a chance to:

  • Use your cumulative training, experience, and critical thinking skills.
  • Collaborate with highly respected experts.
  • Continuously learn and grow.
  • Make a tangible difference.
