What does a biologist do?
What are careers in biology?
As the study of life, biology offers many career paths if you’re interested in science and new discoveries. As a research biologist, you can work in health care and experiment with different organisms to find cures and treatments for diseases. Alternatively, your research can focus on the environment and conservation efforts. You can become a biology educator and bring the excitement of science to new generations, or you can combine your science knowledge with another field, like biotechnology, forensics, politics and public policy, or mathematics.

What is the difference between Biology vs Marine Biologist?
| Aspect | Biology | Marine Biologist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Bachelor's or higher in Biology or related field | Bachelor's or higher in Marine Biology, Biology, or related field |
| Work Environment | Laboratories, classrooms, research facilities | Ocean, coastal areas, research vessels |
| Industry Usage | Universities, research institutions, healthcare | Environmental agencies, research organizations, conservation groups |
| Common Search/Comparison | General biology careers and education | Specialized careers in marine environments |
Biology is a broad field covering all living organisms, while Marine Biologists focus specifically on marine life and ocean ecosystems. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds, but Marine Biologists work primarily in aquatic environments, often conducting field research at sea. Understanding these differences helps individuals choose the right career path based on their interests in general biology or marine sciences.

Job description
Title: General Biology Instructor
Position Type: Instructor
College: Front Range Community College
Division: Academic Affairs
Department: FRCC Sciences
Campus: Boulder County Campus, Larimer Campus, Westminster Campus, Online Learning
Location: Longmont, CO; Fort Collins, CO; Westminster, CO; Remote (Colorado)
Salary Range: Varies by course. Please see Additional Information below.
This posting is an applicant pool for both in-person and online learning opportunities across all three of our campuses located in Fort Collins, CO (Larimer Campus), Longmont, CO (Boulder County Campus), and Westminster, CO (Westminster Campus). In your application, please indicate which type of instructor position you are applying for by answering the relevant questions.
Who We Are:
With three campuses along Colorado’s Front Range, FRCC is the state’s largest community college. We enroll close to 28,000 students annually from our diverse service area, which offers a variety of cultural and recreational activities.
Each year approximately 5,000 FRCC students transfer to four-year universities and FRCC offers more than 36 career training programs that prepare students for immediate employment and rewarding careers. Last year, more than 5,000 high school students took concurrent enrollment classes with us, earning college credit without having to pay college tuition. And we were recently ranked as one of the “Top Online Colleges” in the country by Newsweek.
One of FRCC’s main goals is to offer educational excellence for everyone. The college’s strong commitment to student success means we start by creating an inclusive and equitable environment—one where both students and employees feel they belong and are supported. FRCC’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is woven into the fabric of our college conversations and decision-making processes. We are actively seeking to hire a workforce that reflects the diversity of our student body.
The college is also an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution. For us, becoming an HSI is an intentional commitment to being a college where our Latinx (and other historically marginalized) students thrive.
FRCC employees and leaders work hard to create a culture of collaboration, innovation and pride. We’re looking to hire people who share these values—along with our commitment to student success, equity and excellence.
Job Summary:
As a part-time instructor in the Biology department, you provide instruction in all levels of general biology, including certificate and/or transfer levels.
