How much do biology engineering jobs pay per year?
What is a biology engineer?
A Biology Engineering job involves applying principles of biology and engineering to develop solutions in healthcare, agriculture, biotechnology, and environmental science. Professionals in this field work on designing medical devices, genetic engineering, biomaterials, and sustainable biological systems. They often collaborate with scientists and engineers to create innovative technologies that improve human health and resource management. Career opportunities exist in pharmaceuticals, biomedical research, and bioinformatics.
What does a biology engineer do?
Biology Engineers typically divide their time between conducting experiments in laboratories, designing biological systems or products, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as chemists, medical professionals, or product designers. You may work on developing new medical devices, optimizing bioprocesses, or improving agricultural techniques, depending on your industry. Regular tasks also include maintaining detailed documentation, reporting results, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The work environment is often dynamic and project-driven, offering opportunities to contribute to innovative solutions that have real-world impact.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in biology engineering?
To excel in Biology Engineering, you need a strong background in biological sciences and engineering principles, often supported by a relevant degree such as bioengineering or biotechnology. Familiarity with laboratory techniques, CAD software for biological systems, and certifications like ASCP or Six Sigma can be highly advantageous. Collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this interdisciplinary field. These abilities are crucial for integrating biology and engineering to solve real-world problems and drive innovation in healthcare, agriculture, and biotechnology industries.

Job description
Dr. Miraldi’s Immuno-Engineering Laboratory seeks a computational research fellow to build mathematical models of the immune system in vivo. These models will be constructed from cutting-edge, high-dimensional, immune-system measurements (e.g., single-cell genomics, chromatin state, proteomics). Our mathematical modeling frameworks span mechanistic (e.g., dynamic gene regulatory networks) to deep learning (e.g., prediction of cellular epigenomes from DNA sequence). Situated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, we are dedicated to the design of computational methods and systems-immunology studies that will ultimately improve the health of children. Through close collaboration with our physician and experimental colleagues, we iteratively test and refine our models, so that the models yield novel insights into immune-cell function and ultimately guide new therapeutic strategies in the context of autoimmunity, infectious disease and cancer. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with experimental immunologists, physicians and other computational biologists. The team will design and execute hybrid computational-experimental strategies that push the boundaries of both immunology and computational biology.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments, and analyze the data.
- Research and improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques. Implement this knowledge in the Division/Department.
