Job description

Gain first-hand knowledge in the animal husbandry industry while spending a semester in a unique island resort setting.  Moody Gardens' goal is to help our interns gain a broader understanding of the industry.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Learn daily husbandry and nutrition for a diverse collection of animals
  • Gain experience with hands-on opportunities
  • Learn positive reinforcement and environmental enrichment techniques
  • Learn proper food preparation techniques and understand system diets
  • Gain basic knowledge of water quality and system management
  • Work closely with biologists and interact with guests
  • Currently studying or recently graduated in a biological science or related field
  •  Must be reliable and responsible
  • Ability to effectively work with internal and external customers
  • Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, climb ladders, stairs and work around water
  • Ability to perform duties in confined spaces
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform duties within extreme weather and temperature ranges 
  • Must complete online courses and course evaluations
