About this Job LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The mission of the Education and Outreach Division is to connect people to Louisiana's natural resources through education and outdoor experiences that inspire participation, stewardship and support for conservation. This position is responsible for implementing and instructing hunter education, general conservation, outdoor skills, and other related education and outreach programs in South LA.

This position will be domiciled in the Lafayette Office. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: This Biologist position is responsible for implementing and instructing hunter education, general conservation, outdoor skills, and other related education and outreach programs. The incumbent's primary responsibility is to support Hunter Education; however, they will also be expected to assist the following sister programs as needed: Shooting Sports, Fisheries Education and Outreach, and other departmental outreach initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Recruits, trains, and coordinates a network of volunteer Hunter Education instructors and outreach representatives to deliver related public programs May be responsible for the direct supervision of one student worker Frequent night and weekend work is required Unavoidable hazards include working with firearms of all types, sharp objects such as knives, and the occasional use of watercraft and all-terrain vehicles Physical demands include lifting boxes of educational materials, monitors, displays, and shooting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds IDEAL CANDIDATE: Possess strong communication, public speaking, organizational, and interpersonal skills Be comfortable presenting to diverse audiences, working collaboratively with volunteers and partners, adapting to changing priorities, and representing the Department in a professional manner Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected. This position will be domiciled in the Lafayette Office. Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised as a Biologist 1, 2, or 3.
