Job description

DESCRIPTION
Provides sterilized surgical instruments, supplies and equipment to the operating rooms. Assist in the training of the other personnel, utilizing principles of the standard precautions and utilizing principles of event-related sterility. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care. Responsible for assisting the clinical staff with care of the patient.
Responsibilities
• Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment; and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
• Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
• Sort mismatches set of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
• Follows all principles of sterile technique.
• Adhering to principles of Universal Precautions.
• Restocks, labels and maintains inventory; submits requisitions; collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts and facility medical equipment.
• Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room and in equipment storage areas.
• Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement; and removes defective equipment.
• Adheres to guidelines for infection control and maintains a safe, clean and orderly OR environment.
• Assists the operative team with turnover between classes.
• Assures patient/personal safety by maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Assists with maintenance of supplies and equipment. Assist with cleaning/mopping and laundry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to read and legibly write, communicate appropriately and effectively, understand and execute instructions as needed and visually distinguish color.
• Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
• Function independently without constant supervision.
• Ability to perform tasks of a sterile process technician efficiently.
• Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of care and handling of surgical instruments. Knowledge and ability to execute the aseptic technique.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or LVN license in state of employment.
  • Certified in sterile processing preferred (CSPDT) or in surgical technology (CST or CORT).
  • One (1) year experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
