What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bioinformatics Manager in a remote setting, and why are they important?

To excel as a Bioinformatics Manager remotely, you need a strong background in computational biology, data analysis, and project leadership, typically supported by an advanced degree in bioinformatics or a related field. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools (such as Python, R, and workflow management systems), cloud computing platforms, and relevant certifications are highly beneficial. Excellent communication, team management, and problem-solving skills are crucial to effectively coordinate distributed teams and projects. These competencies ensure successful project delivery, data-driven decision making, and productive collaboration in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Bioinformatics Managers working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Bioinformatics Managers working remotely often encounter challenges such as coordinating distributed teams, ensuring data security, and maintaining effective communication across time zones. To address these issues, it's important to implement robust project management tools, establish clear protocols for data sharing, and schedule regular virtual meetings to foster collaboration. Building a culture that encourages transparency and proactive communication can also help mitigate misunderstandings and keep projects on track.

What does a Bioinformatics Manager do in a remote role?

A Bioinformatics Manager working remotely oversees teams that analyze biological data, such as genetic or genomic information, using computational tools and software. They coordinate research projects, manage data pipelines, and ensure the quality and integrity of analyses performed. Additionally, they are responsible for mentoring team members, collaborating with scientists or clinicians, and helping to translate complex data into actionable insights for research or clinical applications—all while effectively managing workflows and communication in a remote environment.

What is the difference between Bioinformatics Manager Remote vs Bioinformatics Scientist?

Job description

Biotech Health Data Governance Lead

What if your expertise in biotech data governance could directly shape how AI understands and works with clinical research data — influencing the future of life sciences and scientific discovery?

We're looking for a Biotech Health Data Governance Lead to ensure that research and clinical trial data used in AI training and evaluation is accurate, traceable, compliant, and scientifically trustworthy. Your work will sit at the intersection of cutting-edge AI development and regulated life sciences research — a rare and meaningful place to operate.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for experienced professionals who want autonomy, meaningful impact, and exposure to frontier AI and biotech research.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Govern biotech research and clinical trial datasets to ensure accuracy, lineage, and auditability for scientific analysis and regulatory submissions
  • Define and enforce data policies covering classification, access controls, security protocols, and metadata standards across research, clinical, regulatory, and partner teams
  • Enable secure, governed data access for analytics, AI model development, and external collaborations — while protecting confidential and patient-related information
  • Evaluate and improve data quality workflows, annotation standards, and data readiness for AI training pipelines
  • Collaborate across scientific, IT, compliance, and business stakeholders to align data governance frameworks with operational and regulatory requirements
  • Support the development of scalable, auditable data governance practices suited to fast-moving life sciences and AI research environments

Who You Are

  • Experienced in leading or implementing data governance programs within biotech, life sciences, clinical research, or other regulated data environments
  • Deeply knowledgeable about data privacy, security, compliance, and regulatory expectations for research and clinical trial data
  • Comfortable bridging scientific, technical, and business teams — translating complex governance requirements into clear, actionable standards
  • Detail-oriented and systematic — you build trust through thoroughness, consistency, and clear documentation
  • Self-directed and reliable when working independently in a remote, asynchronous environment

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI data evaluation systems
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GCP, HIPAA, or ICH guidelines
  • Background in clinical data management, bioinformatics, or health informatics
  • Experience working alongside AI or machine learning teams in a data governance capacity

Why Join Us

  • Work at the frontier of AI and life sciences — contributing to projects that matter for both fields
  • Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your schedule
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of high-stakes, technically rigorous work
  • Gain exposure to advanced AI models and how high-quality, governed data drives better science
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
