Job Summary/Basic Function
Job Summary:
The Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences welcomes applications for a 9-month non-tenure track faculty position in the biology program of the Department of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Non-Tenure track faculty typically teach 15 contact hours per semester (undergraduate) or 30 contact hours per academic year
โ€ข Faculty are expected to contribute to the program, department, University, and profession through appropriate service obligations, including the advising of students and committee service.
โ€ข Teach undergraduate biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses as assigned (including, but not restricted to, general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry).
โ€ข Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
โ€ข Evaluate and grade students' class/lab work, assignments, and papers.
โ€ข Collect and analyze data for program and university assessment.
โ€ข Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
โ€ข Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
โ€ข Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
โ€ข Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
โ€ข Develop and use multimedia course materials and other current technology, such as online courses.
โ€ข Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
โ€ข Assist department chair with continual program development.
โ€ข Participate in unit meetings and other university-wide activities/committees.
โ€ข Conduct research in their area of expertise and seek grant funding for projects.
โ€ข Other duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
โ€ข Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
โ€ข Previous successful work experience with culturally diverse populations a plus.
โ€ข Cope effectively with adversity and demonstrate leadership skills that promote collegiality and cooperation.
โ€ข Ability to use technology in instruction and student advising. Experience in curriculum and institutional assessment a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
โ€ข Earned Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or related discipline.
โ€ข Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate classroom.
โ€ข Evidence of potential for developing a research program in the area of biology, or multidisciplinary area that fully involves and engages undergraduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with teaching experience in biology, and introductory level chemistry courses preferred. Must be able to teach organic and biochemistry.

Work is generally performed in an office, classroom, or exercise lab environment. Frequent reaching, sitting, walking, and standing may be required. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job.
