Job description

Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the Van Waardenburg lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, has an immediate opening for a Researcher II. We investigate enzyme mechanisms, at structural, biochemical and cellular levels using human and yeast cell models and eukaryotic enzyme orthologs. Specifically, we focus on the DNA repair enzyme Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase I (Tdp1) and cytosolic sulfotransferases (SULTs). The technician responsibilities will include biochemical and cellular assays, such as protein isolation/purification, cellular toxicity, growth assays and mitochondrial assays.
General Responsibilities
  • Under minimal supervision, to set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.
  • To collect, enter and summarize data.
  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range : $ 15.50- $19.23
Qualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field OR Associate's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferences
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology and affinity for biochemical analysis are preferred.
