Job description

Scheduled Hours: 37.5 Position Summary Research Technician to work on the production and analysis of antibiotic-like compounds produced by non-pathogenic soil bacteria. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Conduct, evaluate, and maintain experiments. Collect data and perform analysis. Data management. Maintain safe and clean lab space. Train and manage undergraduates in conduct of research. Restock chemical and consumable inventories. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Lab environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education. No specific certification/professional license required. No specific work experience required. Driver's license not required. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field. Experience in sterile technique, molecular biology, and basic biochemistry. Good communication, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task effectively. For applicants with a molecular biology or biochemistry background: expertise in routine plasmid construction, PCR experimental design and execution, clone library construction, and/or protein expression and affinity purification; proficiency in bacterial genetics strongly desired. For applicants with a chemistry background: expertise in reverse phase and/or normal phase chromatography, HPLC/MS use and maintenance; specific experience with small molecule chromatography/purification/quantification strongly desired. Salary Salary Range: $16.92 - $26.44 per hour. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including qualifications, performance, equity, market rates, and department budget.
