Alcon is looking to hire a Bioanalytical Scientist (Sr. Associate I) within, Preclinical Development to lead bioanalytical strategy supporting small-molecule discovery, preclinical and regulatory development programs. This role serves as a key scientific interface across internal stakeholders and external partners, providing expert guidance on bioanalytical method development, execution, and interpretation for small-molecule programs. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on leadership to ensure high-quality, fit-for-purpose bioanalytical support aligned with program and regulatory needs.
This role is on-site in our Durham, NC location and a typical day will include:
  • Define and drive small-molecule bioanalytical strategy across discovery, preclinical, and early clinical development.
  • Provide expert input on study design, method selection, data interpretation, and regulatory expectations for small-molecule programs.
  • Develop and implement stage-appropriate LC-MS/MS-based bioanalytical methods for quantification of small molecules in a variety of biological matrices.
  • Apply advanced analytical and separation techniques to address complex scientific questions related to exposure, metabolism, stability, and biotransformation.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and workflows to enhance bioanalytical efficiency and data quality.
  • Author and review bioanalytical sections of reports supporting INDs, regulatory submissions, patents, and publications.
  • Serve as the bioanalytical scientific representative on cross-functional project teams, including partnered programs.
  • Analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate bioanalytical and DMPK data to project teams, senior leadership, and external collaborators.
  • Ensure consistent data quality, integrity, and documentation in accordance with GLP/GCP expectations and internal standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of bioanalytical processes, infrastructure, and resource planning.

What you'll bring to Alcon:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • 2 Years of Relevant Experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ Years of Relevant Experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in LC-MS/MS and mass-spectrometry-based quantitative bioanalysis.
  • Strong background in separation science and hyphenated analytical techniques.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments, with working knowledge of GLP/GCP requirements.
  • Proven ability to provide scientific leadership across multiple programs and priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex data to diverse audiences.
  • Experience overseeing CROs and outsourced small-molecule bioanalytical programs.
  • Familiarity with Phoenix WinNonlin for noncompartmental and PK data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ocular PK modeling approaches and ophthalmology-relevant modeling tools (e.g., ocular compartmental models, exposure-response interpretation).
  • Track record of innovation and modernization of bioanalytical workflows.
