Bindery Operator 

Department:   Bindery

Job Status:    Regular Full-time

FLSA Status:  Non Exempt 

Reports To:  Bindery Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The primary purpose of the Bindery Operator is to set-up and run jobs to specifications on job tickets; maintain productivity, quality and efficiency of production runs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions: 

  • Pull job ticket and photocopy; read and understand prior to set-up and running of job.
  • Set-up and run jobs to job ticket specification; obtain quality approval from manager, supervisor or quality control person.
  • Run machine at acceptable production rate, strive for continuous improvement and decrease spoilage.
  • Pull all samples from press sample pallets and ensure they are used and distributed according to job ticket specification.
  • Communicate machine performance and job status with the next shift operator. Leave a note for the operator if there is a time lapse between shifts.
  • Complete Shift Report and leave for manager prior to end of shift.
  • Train general workers, trainees and temporary employees to properly and safely perform their job duties.
  • Assist temporary employees with time cards.
  • Maintain machines on a daily basis; minimally on a weekly basis.
  • Report necessary repairs to manager; include a written list of part number(s) from manuals for parts needed.
  • Track materials and standard replacement parts to ensure appropriate inventory level; report shortages in writing to manager.
  • Ensure all safety devices are in working order and in use when machine is running. Report any necessary repairs to manager.
  • Ensure post-press employees and temporary employees follow all safety rules. Report violations to manager.
  • Maintain a clean work environment; leave area clean for next shift
     
     

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Experience: Five years of general bindery experience; two years of Bindery Trainee experience

  • Level I Bindery Operator- Ability to set up and operate machinery with assistance
  • Level II Bindery Operator- Ability to set up and operate machinery independently
  • Level III Bindery Operator- Ability to set up, run, and perform maintenance and repairs on machinery
     
     

Certificates & Licenses: Must be able to obtain industrial power truck certification
