Job description

Responsibilities

We are seeking to hire a qualified Technical Designer with experience in model-based erection procedure deliverables for various structural systems, as well as fabrication-level (LOD400) detailing for structural steel, reinforced concrete, and light gauge steel structural systems. The role of Technical Designer in the Construction Engineering practice area is to develop Building Information Models (BIM), engineering elements, and structural systems specifically during construction phase portions of projects.ย  Position requires impeccable written and spoken communication skills with frequent interactions with architects, contractors, and owners. Other responsibilities include:

  • Uses latest tools/digital workflows to efficiently create and maintain BIM information and to interoperate with analysis, documentation, fabrication, and construction models
  • Performs clash detection against reference models and works with internal team to track and resolve clashes and conflicts
  • Works with project team (architects, contractors, engineers, designers, and modelers) to plan and document project-specific digital implementation, including analysis, design, documentation, fabrication, and construction models
  • Audits models after key milestones, and periodically checks model content for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to graphic and modeling standards
  • Understands key building systems, their components, and typical layout/geometry/dimensions
  • Learns detailing conventions for commonly encountered conditions and project-specific details
  • Works towards understanding of constructability issues, especially with atypical conditions
  • Maintain budgetary objectives of project
  • Perform other functions as needed.
Qualifications
  • 0 - 3 previous years of experience in developing and applying advanced digital workflows in the AEC industry
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural preferred
  • Experience with BIM, parametric modeling, and interoperability required
    • Experience with Tekla required
    • Experience with Revit, Rhino and/or Grasshopper a plus
  • Candidates must be proactive, have strong organizational skills, excellent time management skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and be client-service oriented.
