While Bim Data Center focuses on managing BIM data infrastructure and storage, Bim Modeler is primarily involved in creating detailed BIM models for project design and coordination. Both roles require BIM software proficiency, but their core responsibilities differ significantly, with Bim Data Center emphasizing data management and Bim Modeler focusing on model creation and design.

What are some common challenges faced by BIM Data Center professionals when managing large-scale projects?

BIM Data Center professionals often encounter challenges related to integrating data from multiple sources, ensuring interoperability among different software platforms, and maintaining data accuracy across project teams. Coordinating updates in real-time and managing access control for various stakeholders can also be complex, especially on large projects. To overcome these challenges, many teams establish standardized workflows, use centralized data environments, and prioritize clear communication among architects, engineers, and contractors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BIM Data Center Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BIM Data Center Specialist, you need expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM), data center infrastructure, and strong technical qualifications, often supported by a degree in engineering or architecture. Proficiency in BIM software such as Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD, along with knowledge of data center management systems, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These abilities are crucial for ensuring accurate design, efficient project coordination, and reliable operation of complex data center facilities.

What is a BIM Data Center?

A BIM Data Center is a centralized digital facility that manages, stores, and processes Building Information Modeling (BIM) data for construction and infrastructure projects. It provides a secure environment where BIM models and related project data can be accessed, updated, and shared by various stakeholders such as architects, engineers, and contractors. The data center ensures data integrity, supports collaboration, and streamlines project workflows, often integrating with cloud-based solutions for scalability and remote access.

Job description

What you'll do

Giga Energy is seeking an experienced BIM Lead to oversee the development and integration of Building Information Models (BIM) across our data center construction portfolio. This role is responsible for coordinating all project stakeholders - architects, structural, MEP, and civil disciplines - to optimize the design, construction, and operation phases of mission-critical projects. The BIM Lead manages digital construction data, enforces model integrity, and drives the workflows that allow Giga's projects to be delivered with speed, accuracy, and constructability.

Where you'll work

We are an in-office culture - velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.

ResponsibilitiesModel Development & Coordination
  • Develop, manage, and update BIM models supporting design, construction, and operational handover.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure model accuracy and consistency across disciplines.
  • Conduct clash detection and lead the resolution of coordination issues using Navisworks, Revit, or equivalent tools.
  • Facilitate regular coordination meetings to review model progress, identify issues, and develop resolutions.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration across all internal teams and external partners.
Standards, Quality, and BIM Execution
  • Create, Implement and enforce BIM standards, protocols, naming conventions, and best practices across all projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage BIM Execution Plans (BEP) for each project.
  • Perform quality control checks and model audits to ensure compliance with Giga standards and project requirements.
  • Provide feedback to project teams to drive continuous improvement in modeling practices.
  • Maintain Revit templates, family libraries, and shared content to support consistent project delivery.
Deliverables & Documentation
  • Generate 2D drawings, schedules, and other deliverables from BIM models as required for permitting, construction, and operations.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation including model progress reports, clash detection reports, and coordination meeting minutes.
  • Maintain an organized digital filing system for project models and related documentation in accordance with Giga's data management standards.
Technical Leadership & Training
  • Provide technical support and training to project teams on BIM processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Stay current on BIM technologies, software developments, and industry trends.
  • Evaluate and recommend new BIM tools, plug-ins, and workflows to enhance project efficiency and quality.
  • Support the broader engineering and construction teams in leveraging BIM data for prefabrication, scheduling (4D), and cost (5D) workflows where applicable.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8  years of experience in BIM coordination and management in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and other relevant BIM tools.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, building systems, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
