Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse
Profession: RN

Hours per Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM
Experience: Minimum 2 years in Labor and Delivery
License: RN License Required
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Stable, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
Must-Have: Experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and circulating; triage experience strongly preferred.
Description:
Unit consists of 10 Labor and Delivery beds.
There are 2 Operating Room suites for C-Sections.
Registered Nurses will be required to circulate.
The unit has 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds.
An average of 120 births occur per month.
AWHONN standards are followed for patient ratios.
Required patient ratio is primarily 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 couple care in Postpartum.
Common diagnoses include laboring patients at or beyond 32 weeks, elective induction of labor, medical induction of labor, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and well newborns.
RNs are required to titrate drips, primarily Pitocin per protocol, magnesium, and rarely insulin.
Charge RN, Resource RN, and House Supervisor are present on each shift.
The Charge RN and Resource RN do not have an assignment.
Certified Nursing Assistants will be present 4-5 days and nights each week.
A unit clerk is available 24/7.
OB hospitalist is on site 24/7, and midwives are always on call.
A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is present 24/7, and a Neonatologist is available on call within 15 minutes.
CRNA services are available 24/7.
There are no Tele/Monitor Technicians on this unit.
The Electronic Fetal Monitoring system is GE Connect.
Shifts consist of 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM.
Staff cannot work more than five shifts in a row.
Weekend and holiday requirements depend on unit needs.
There is no call or standby requirement.
Floating to like units is required, with notice provided prior to shift.
True floating to separate locations is rare.
Blue scrubs are provided on the unit.
Customized unit-specific orientation will be provided based on experience.
Charting is done using an EPIC system.
BSN is not required.
Trauma level is acute.
