Job description

ob Summary: Under general supervision the cash posting specialist is responsible for posting payments, adjustments, and rejections to patient accounts in accordance with current policy and procedures. Receives and sorts mail as well as posting inter hospital transfers and credit card payments.
Job Duties:
  • Post payment and adjustment exceptions from an electronic file and ensure each batch posted balances daily.
  • Posts paper remits to include payments, adjustments, and exceptions each day while making sure each batch balances.
  • Post's rejections to include reason codes and reasons as received.
  • Posts zero pay to include accounts that are affected within the remit.
  • Review EOBs to assure proper payment and adjustment has been received.
  • Makes line-item adjustments as directed for all zero pay denials.
  • Identify accounts that need to be refunded.
  • Ensure correct payment processing
  • Runs and analyze balancing report daily to ensure accurate posting.
  • Close batches in system at end of the day.
  • Post all cash, checks, and credit card daily before leaving.
  • Abide with HIPAA and WRHS guidelines at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications:
  1. Education: high school diploma or equivalent required, two- or four-year degree preferred.
  2. Training and Experience: A minimum of 1 year working as hospital cashier, clinical service cashier physician office or hospital billing and posting experience is required.
  3. Job Knowledge:
  • Must meet and manage deadlines.
  • Must have knowledge of insurance payment processing.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Windows, MS Office, Excel Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  • Demonstrate an independent work initiative, sound judgment and strong work ethic.
  • Works cooperatively in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with patients, staff, and managers both verbally and in writing.
  • Shows objectivity and openness to other's views; gives and welcomes feedback.
  • Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills.
