Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Big Data Engineer to support the Digital Solutions team within the Manufacturing and Technology business. The Big Data Engineer will report to the Digital Solutions Lead and help build the foundational digital ecosystem for this new and rapidly growing business.

In this role, you will support the design, development, deployment, and operation of big data solutions that enable the M&T business and projects to process, model, and use data effectively across the project lifecycle.

Major Responsibilities:

As a Big Data Engineer, responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform big data design and analysis, architecture development, data modeling, development, deployment, and operations of big data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business subject matter experts to process data and prepare data sources.
  • Ingest, process, and model data from heterogeneous data sources to support the M&T business and projects.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience [OR] 9-12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • In-depth experience with a big data cloud platform such as AWS or Azure.
  • Strong grasp of programming languages such as Python, Scala, or equivalent, with a willingness to learn new languages and technologies.
  • Experience writing database-heavy services or APIs.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.
  • Working knowledge of queueing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores.
  • Experience working with and supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of structuring code for testability.
  • Ability to travel to the Reston office, client offices, and project sites as needed to support successful client relationships and project execution.
  • Motivated to identify opportunities, develop solutions for evolving challenges, and deliver quality results.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and collaborate with others to implement innovative solutions.
  • Ability to engage with end users, understand business problems, and support core work processes.
