About the Role

The AV Field Engineer is responsible for verifying, testing, and fine-tuning commercial Audio-Visual systems through all project stages—from rack build to client handover. This role ensures that each AV system installed by Cochran meets design intent, performance specifications, and AVIXA standards for functionality and reliability. The ideal candidate combines technical precision with field awareness—bridging installation, engineering, and client experience. You'll work closely with the Project Manager, Systems Engineer, and Field Technicians to commission, program, and validate integrated AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, large-format spaces, and networked environments.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform end-to-end testing, configuration, and commissioning of AV systems (audio, video, control, and network)
  • Verify system wiring, signal flow, and device configuration per schematics and design drawings
  • Load, test, and modify DSP and control programs (Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron, Crestron, etc.)
  • Configure and validate IP-addressable devices, ensuring network compliance and stability
  • Conduct sound pressure level (SPL) testing, acoustic optimization, and video calibration
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during startup
  • Document test results, device configurations, and firmware versions for project closeout
  • Support on-site end-user training and provide technical assistance to PMs and service teams
  • Complete system verification checklists, punch lists, and client sign-offs per Cochran QA/QC SOPs
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment (laptops, analyzers, network tools).
  • Adhere to Cochran's safety standards and represent the company professionally on-site

We are looking for someone with the following competencies:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in commercial AV integration or commissioning
  • Familiarity with AVIXA standards and QA/QC commissioning workflows
  • Experience with control system and DSP platforms such as: Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron, Shure, Logitech, Cisco, Poly.
  • Network configuration and troubleshooting skills (IP addressing, VLANs, AVoIP)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting AV design drawings, schematics, and as-builts
  • Experience documenting test results and client sign-offs in commissioning reports
  • Preferred certifications: AVIXA CTS
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams)
  • Bluebeam Revu or AutoCAD for markups
  • Manufacturer software for device configuration and diagnostics
  • Work environment is field-based with regular travel to project sites within the Puget Sound region. May require after-hours or weekend work to meet commissioning or client deadlines. Collaboration with Project Managers, Engineers, and Technicians in office and field settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or lifts up to 35 feet high
