Job description

Job Title: Senior Data Warehouse & BI Engineer
Industry: Manufacturing
Location: Charlotte, NC

Client Overview

This is a large, publicly traded materials science company, tens of thousands of employees worldwide, well over 15 billion dollars in annual revenue, with a 170 plus year history of inventing new glass, ceramic, and optical technologies. Operates across five major segments spanning optical communications, specialty materials, display technologies, environmental technologies, and life sciences. The company's work shows up in products most people use every day, from consumer electronics to automotive to medical devices. This role sits within one of their U.S. manufacturing or engineering operations.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end to end delivery of data warehouse and BI solutions, from requirements through design, development, testing, and support
  • Develop and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, functions, and queries for reporting and data integration
  • Design, build, and support ETL processes that bring manufacturing and enterprise data into the warehouse
  • Research, analyze, and troubleshoot data issues in stored procedures and SSRS or Power BI reports
  • Partner with the DBA team on server health, query performance, and indexing improvements
  • Develop and support data migration scripts for project and operational needs
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of data warehouse architecture and best practices
  • Keep data warehouse and analytics code in version control per SDLC standards
  • Support operationally critical work, including flexibility for global support hours when needed

What We Need From You

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, plus 5+ years designing, developing, and supporting data warehouse and BI solutions
  • 5+ years with Microsoft BI technologies: SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS
  • Strong T-SQL development, including stored procedures, functions, performance tuning, and query optimization
  • Experience building data warehouse, ETL, and end user reporting solutions such as Power BI within an SDLC process
  • US citizenship required for this Department of Defense related position (ITAR); no immigration sponsorship available

Preferred / Bonus

  • Agile project methodology experience
  • Experience supporting manufacturing or factory floor systems and processes
  • Familiarity with Camstar or other Manufacturing Execution Systems
  • Experience with MES, CMMS, SPC, or OSI PI systems and their data models
  • Experience with Oracle in addition to SQL Server
  • Experience with TFS, GitLab, or similar source control platforms
  • Understanding of OLAP cubes and complex reporting models
  • Clear understanding of OLTP versus OLAP systems
