Job description

Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Material Handling Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all types of material handling equipment (MHE), including forklifts, pallet trucks, scissor lifts, scrubbers, attachments, wrap machines, batteries, and chargers. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with OSHA and company standards, supporting uninterrupted warehouse operations.
Essential Functions:
• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on a wide range of MHE, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and powered industrial equipment.
• Inspect and service equipment to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
• Test and evaluate performance using diagnostic instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other testing devices.
• Maintain, charge, and repair batteries and chargers in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues to the component level and complete repairs efficiently.
• Maintain tools and machinery in proper working condition and operate all tools safely as instructed.
• Perform routine maintenance on other warehouse systems, including doors, dock levelers, and safety devices.
• Assist as needed with building and grounds maintenance such as snow removal, painting, and minor structural repairs.
• Conduct routine tests of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, exit signs, alarms) to ensure operational readiness.
• Maintain accurate and timely preventive maintenance records within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Promote a safe work environment through consistent adherence to safety rules, PPE usage, and personal example.
• Comply with all OSHA, company, and environmental standards.
• Keep work areas organized, clean, and free from hazards in accordance with 6S principles.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall warehouse operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience, preferably within a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (SAP preferred).
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and equipment maintenance practices.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems down to the component level.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting maintenance manuals, diagrams, and schematic drawings.
• Strong communication, documentation, and basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and respond appropriately to supervision and feedback.
Education & Certifications:
• High school diploma or GED required (technical or trade school training preferred).
• Formal technical training in MHE repair (Hyster, Crown, Toyota, or Raymond) preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of certification.
Pay Range: $27 per hour
