Job description

General School Nurse (RN)

Location: New Bedford, MA
School Year: 2026-2027
Schedule: Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Rate: Up to $55/hr (based on experience)

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive nursing services in a school setting. This role is ideal for an RN who is passionate about supporting students' health, safety, and educational success while managing a variety of student healthcare needs.

The ideal candidate will have prior school-based nursing experience and experience working with students with complex medical needs. This position requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care and health services to students throughout the school day.
  • Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
  • Manage and support students with chronic and complex medical conditions.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized healthcare plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers to support student wellness.
  • Maintain accurate health records and nursing documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with state-mandated health screenings and immunization requirements.
  • Promote a safe, healthy, and supportive school environment.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and implement health-related interventions as needed.
Qualifications

Required

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
  • Previous school nursing experience.
  • Experience working with students with complex medical needs.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to pass all required background screening requirements.

Preferred

  • Previous pediatric, school nursing, or special education experience.
  • Experience developing and managing Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs).
  • Knowledge of school health regulations and best practices.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
