Registered Nurse (RN) - School Nurse

Candidates must be comfortable to run the nurse's office independently, as well as provide care to students with complex medical needs.

Location: New Bedford, MA 
Pay Rate: Up to $55/hour based on experience
Schedule: School Hours | Full School Year

Position Overview

The School Nurse will provide comprehensive nursing services to students throughout the school day, addressing a wide range of health needs while promoting student safety and wellness. The school experiences a high volume of daily health office visits, making this an ideal role for a nurse who can efficiently manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care and health assessments to students.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
  • Respond to student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate student health records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to support student health needs.
  • Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions.
  • Promote a safe and healthy school environment.

The School Registered Nurse oversees the application of the nursing process and the delivery of student care in a school setting. The School RN supports the physical, mental and emotional well-being of students within the school setting. The School RN plays an essential role in promoting the health and safety, responding to medical emergencies, managing chronic conditions and serving as a liaison between families, school staff and healthcare providers. The School RN provides services in accordance with Amergis’ philosophy, standards, policies and physician orders.  

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred 
  • School Nurse Certification as required by state or contract
  • One year of school nursing, public health or pediatric experience, preferred  
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice  
  • Current CPR if applicable 
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable  
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)  
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements  
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
