Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Digital Environment is currently recruiting a Data Architecture Specialist, to be located in our St. John's, Newfoundland office. The position will be part of a team focused on the development of an overarching data framework and implementation plan for the collection, analysis and distribution of meteorological / ocean (and other) data for the Newfoundland offshore.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively develop a framework for management of offshore data to integrate with multiple stakeholders, using multiple data management technologies and open data standards.
  • Collaboratively identify and analyze best practices from other offshore oil and gas jurisdictions.
  • Architect, design and implement a pilot demonstration of a data management network.
  • Document and report on analysis, development and testing activities.
  • Communicating effectively with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to team processes and quality control measures.
  • Other duties as needed for the completion of the project.
Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements

Individual is expected to be enthusiastic, a team-player who is able to work with minimal supervision, interested in new technology, have a passion for quality and a desire for innovation.

Preferred Skills (these skills would normally be acquired through graduate degree in Engineering or Computer Science and/or practical experimentation):

  • Good understanding and experience defining and optimizing data architecture, schemas, metadata, data storage, networking.
  • Good understanding and experience working with industry data standards (OGC, WMO, etc.), common data formats and protocols (OPeNDAP, NetCDF, etc.)
  • Ability to work as part of a larger team or independently
  • Time management and multi-tasking ability.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Out-of-the-box thinker

Additional Useful Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud computing (e.g. Amazon Web Services) and network data exchange
  • Software development experience with knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: JavaScript, .NET, Python, Bash, React, Node.js, C#
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB; big data storage solutions would be an asset
  • Database experience in defining and optimizing database architecture
