What can you expect?

As the Environmental Scientist II, you will work out of one of our offices in either Anchorage, AK, Fairbanks, AK, Salt Lake City, UT or Grand Junction, CO. You will utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation, in addition to providing field support as needed including field site supervision. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline driven so must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment.

How will you do it?

  • Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
  • Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
  • Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites using CERCLA/RCRA guidelines.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives.
  • Review and provide documentation on environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
  • Actively participate in creating a positive team environment.
  • Support project planning and RFP responses.
  • Solve challenges for Clients.
  • Manage company resources to ensure proper deliverables.
  • Support junior Environmental Scientist staff.
  • Actively participate in a proactive safety culture.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities however; will provide support to Junior Environmental Scientists.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CERCLA/RCRA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship.
  • Ability to act as an effective team member.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in physical or environmental science.
  • Five to ten years of experience working on environmental projects.
  • A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
  • Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
  • Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
