About the Role
Sun King is hiring for the role of Regional Communications Manager for West & Central Africa. This is a high-impact, multi-disciplinary communications role that sits at the intersection of brand storytelling, media relations, thought leadership and corporate communications infrastructure. The successful candidate will shape and execute the communications strategy for one of the most dynamic growth regions in the off-grid solar sector, covering Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana.
The role will work in close partnership with the country teams, partnerships, marketing and sales teams for West & Central Africa, you will own the region's communications calendar, content engine, media relationships and thought-leadership programme. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting fundraising communications and connecting field-level impact stories to global investor and partner narratives.
  • Source and develop impactful field stories, customer testimonials and regional impact content across WCA markets.
  • Manage content distribution strategies across media, social, investor and internal channels.
  • Maintain and update the regional communications content library and communications calendar.
  • Track and analyse impact metrics using Looker to support storytelling and reporting.
  • Build and manage Sun King's presence at regional and international industry events, panels and conferences.
  • Develop speaker briefs, thought-leadership materials and event participation strategies for leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with regional and international media outlets and journalists.
  • Develop and implement media engagement strategies, including media pitching, spokesperson management and media training.
  • Draft press materials, op-eds, expert commentaries and corporate communications collateral.
  • Manage WCA-related website updates, fact sheets, brochures, investor decks and brand materials.
  • Support fundraising and investor engagement through tailored communications and presentation materials.
  • Partner closely with country teams to identify storytelling opportunities, manage reputational risks and provide communications support.
  • Ensure brand consistency and effective corporate communications across all WCA markets.
  • Bachelor's degree or Higher Diploma (required) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, International Development, Business Administration or a closely related discipline.
  • Master's degree (preferred) in Strategic Communications, Marketing, International Development, or MBA - particularly welcome for candidates with fewer than eight years of direct regional communications experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to communicate in French is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, brand management or integrated marketing communications, with at least 4 years in a regional or multi-country capacity.
  • Demonstrable experience working across multiple Sub-Saharan African markets - West or Central Africa experience is strongly preferred; prior coverage of Francophone markets (Benin, Togo, Cameroon or Cote d'Ivoire) is a significant advantage.
  • Track record of developing and executing media strategies that have delivered measurable results (media placements, share of voice, coverage quality) across diverse media environments.
  • Experience in a fast-paced or high-growth context, whether in off-grid energy, PAYG finance, fintech, telecommunications, FMCG, international development or closely related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience producing high-quality written communications across formats - press releases, op-eds, speeches, investor materials, website copy and long-form features - for both Anglophone and Francophone audiences.
  • Experience using data platforms or analytics tools to inform and shape communications narratives; familiarity with CMS platforms (WordPress) and basic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.
  • Experience managing external agencies, freelancers and vendors (PR agencies, creative studios, photographers, videographers) to deliver on time and within budget.
