Schedule: Full Time and Part Time available, Day and Night Shift. Behavioral Health Aides will work 3 twelve hour shifts per week.

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician increases rapport with clients through trauma-informed practices to create a safe, welcoming environment that will offer stabilization, encourage self-sufficiency, independence, and offer basic services and support to move toward a healthier lifestyle.

Essential Duties

• Answer phones and provide program information as necessary.
• Ensure the safety of clients and enforce facility rules through diligent monitoring and engagement with clients. Conduct bi-hourly head counts.
• Take vital signs.
• Conduct urine collection for urinalysis, if needed.
• Conduct initial intake screenings for clients being referred to the facility.
• Conduct or assist with initial admission/safety assessments upon a client's admission and throughout their care episode.
• Monitor, educate and assist clients in performance of daily living activities in accordance with goals and problem areas identified on individual treatment plan.
• Facilitate skills and recreation groups.
• Adhere to daily schedule.
• Attend staff meetings and training when scheduled.
• Utilize de-escalation skills to manage client crisis by adhering to the De-escalation Training.
• Complete all paperwork and reporting related to client and program activities accurately and in accordance with licensing and contract requirements, managed confidentially, and stored appropriately.
• Complete incident reporting immediately and triage incidents to ensure all parties are notified as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of the facility while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and fire code. Identify issues that require maintenance and work orders and forward them to appropriate personnel. Monitor for contraband.
• Work well with co-workers as a team.
• Utilize the onsite supervisor or the on-call system for guidance and support from supervising staff when any unusual, serious, or critical incident occurs.
• Respond to requests from clinical/counseling staff.
• Attend work as scheduled.

Secondary Duties

• Maintain positive, professional interactions with community resources including, emergency services, fire, police and sheriff, criminal justice, staff from other community providers, client family members, agency donors, community support groups and referral sources.
• Provide community resource list or other basic information to clients.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings.
• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Preferred, but not required: High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in one or more of the following:
• Residential or Outpatient Treatment
• Working with adults with mental illness / substance use disorders.
• Social Services
• Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office - required for client data entry and intake and admission duties.
• Grounded in your own recovery, if applicable, 1 year of sobriety or more required.
• Ability to be firm and consistent, yet compassionate.
• Ability to work efficiently and to switch tasks effectively.
• Must work scheduled shifts. (will vary). Reliability to fill shifts and support the team as needed.
• Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures. Interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
• Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
• Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver's license, have a good driving record and be insurable on the agency's liability policy.
• Knowledge of Mental Illness and Addiction.
• Communication skills to problem solving directly with clients and other staff.
• Teachable – Willingness to learn and grow in your position.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and Utah DHS – Office of Licensing background screening.
• CPR and First Aid Certification or become certified in the first 30 days.

Physical Demands

• Ability to move around the facility, interacting with clients for 12 hour shifts.
• Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds.
• Work is generally performed in an office environment. May entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
