POSITION: Behavior Support Specialist
LOCATION:ย ย Albany High Complex
JOB SUMMARY:
ย The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Behavior Support Specialist to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective professionals. The Behavior Support Specialist provides direct support to students, teachers, and staff by implementing behavior interventions, developing support plans, and fostering a positive school environment. This position plays a critical role in promoting student success by addressing behavioral challenges and supporting staff in implementing best practices for behavior management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred;
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with students in a behavioral support or intervention role;
  3. Experience in K-12 education settings preferred;
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: ย 
  1. Ability to relate and motivate all students;
  2. Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
  3. Ability to develop and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs;
  4. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.?
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance;
  2. Be present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students;
  3. Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and analyze data to identify behavior trends and areas for intervention;
  4. Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed to ensure effectiveness;
  5. Provide training and coaching to school personnel on behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques;
  6. Serve as a resource for implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other district-wide behavior initiatives;
  7. Support crisis intervention efforts and assist in the development of safety plans for students with behavioral challenges;
  8. Maintain accurate and timely records of interventions, progress monitoring, and student support efforts;
  9. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as needed to provide input on behavioral support services;
  10. Collaborate with families, community agencies, and other stakeholders to support students' behavioral and social-emotional needs;
  11. Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the Supervisor.

  1. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment as needed;
  2. Ability to stand and actively move around the classroom for extended periods;
  3. Ability to travel between school sites if providing itinerant services;
