Job description

Position Title: Substance Abuse Technician  

Position Status: Full-time  

Supervisor: Program Manager 

Work location: Louisville 

Status: N 

Pre-Employment Requirements: 

  • Criminal background check – over one year since prior conviction
  • Drug test
  • TB skin test: Must have a test or provide proof of one within the past year.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation. 
  • High school education or General Education Development (GED) preferred; 21 years of age or older required.

Position Summary: Responsible for the health, safety and well-being of each client and for ensuring the highest level of care is provided. 

Skill Sets: Demonstrate good oral and written communications. Maintain a supportive and encouraging working relationship with supervisor, leaders, and clients. Must have basic computer and communication skills and demonstrate non-judgmental and non-bias disposition regarding clients. 

Physical and Environmental Demands: Visual acuity and manual dexterity are needed for the required paperwork. Frequent talking and hearing are required when communicating with leaders, families, and other service providers. The physical demands are light with walking, standing, and occasional stooping.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide quality customer service to personnel, persons served, families, and stakeholders.
  2. Help maintain the health safety and welfare of personnel, person served and stakeholders.
  3. Do not leave the facility unless approved by the supervisor.
  4. Keep and monitor the phone and answer it, complete screenings and take messages.
  5. Ensure and maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  6. Participate in night and morning meditation.
  7. Walk around the facility and complete 30-minute checks of each client.
  8. Collaborate with Program Manager and facility staff in program development.
  9. Assist in the Quality Assurance of the agency.
  10. Participate in staff meetings; monthly or as directed.
  11. Assist in the supervision of clients and respond to all requests and emergencies during duty hours.
  12. Facilitate daily groups as scheduled.
  13. Actively encourage and promote client involvement in classes/program.
  14. Assist clients in their adjustment to community living.
  15. Assist with medication observation.
  16. Evaluate/monitor group attendance of participation in collaboration with clinical team.
  17. Verbally de-escalate tense or aggressive situations to calm clients.
  18. Address and document all aggressive behaviors on the incident report form and document in EMR.
  19. Hold accountability
  1. Check facility and bed areas for proper cleanliness: beds must be made, no items should be on top of lockers or nightstands, or in the middle of floor, etc.
  2. Monitor client visitations and observe the sign-in and sign-out process. Search visitors' bags prior to entry into the facility.
  3. Ensure clients are not using cleaning chemicals without supervision.
  4. Ensure the program is being cleaned and sanitized regularly.
  5. Provide simple meals on the weekend-Residential only.
  6. Ensure that clients/visitors are smoking in designated smoking areas.
  7. If approved by Risk/Compliance, provide local transportation.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
