What is a behavior manager?

Behavior Managers are professionals who work within schools, organizations, or healthcare settings to support individuals in improving their behavior and social skills. They typically develop, implement, and monitor behavior intervention plans, collaborate with teachers, families, or care teams, and provide training or guidance on managing challenging behaviors. Their goal is to create positive, supportive environments that help individuals succeed academically, socially, or personally. Behavior Managers often have backgrounds in psychology, education, or behavioral analysis.

What are some common challenges a behavior manager faces when implementing behavior intervention plans in a school setting?

Behavior Managers often encounter challenges such as resistance from students, varying levels of staff buy-in, and the need to tailor interventions to diverse individual needs. Collaborating effectively with teachers, support staff, and families is key to overcoming these obstacles. Regular communication, ongoing training, and flexibility in modifying strategies help ensure the success of behavior intervention plans and foster a supportive learning environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a behavior manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Behavior Manager, you generally need expertise in behavioral assessment, intervention planning, and a degree in psychology, education, or a related field, often along with certification such as Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Familiarity with data collection tools, behavior tracking software, and evidence-based intervention systems is crucial. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help foster collaboration with staff, students, and families. These competencies are vital for designing effective behavior interventions that promote positive outcomes and a supportive environment.

Job description

As an early childhood Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) at Ascend Behavior Partners, you won’t find our values statements on a coffee mug. Instead, you will find it in our DNA, where it shows in every interaction with clients, families, and our fellow “Ascenders.”  Ascend Behavior Partners proudly offers Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in a play-based natural environment to children with an autism diagnosis up to age seven.

Join our mission of partnering with families to build a strong foundation for their children with an autism diagnosis in early childhood and beyond using ABA Therapy.

This position calls for empathy, a playful Mary Poppins level spirit, a hunger for professional development, and Spider-Man-like quickness to think on your feet! If you are big-hearted, strongly committed, and believe in building a solid foundation of early intervention, apply today and a member of our Talent Acquisition team will be in touch within 1 business day!

Requirements
  • A passion for positively impacting the lives of children with autism and their families

  • Enthusiasm and high-energy levels to keep your client engaged and learning in a playful environment

  • Active (or voluntary inactive) RBT credential number on the BACB website

  • Experience working as a Registered Behavior Technician and proficient in ABA terminology and practice

  • Experience with children in a professional setting, supporting them with communication and behavioral needs

  • We are looking for individuals who are reliable and consistent. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of responsibility and accountability to consistently provide life changing services to their clients and manage a healthy work-life balance by planning ahead for their time off and communicating consistently with their team.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to travel to various clients’ homes up to 40 miles from your home location, reliably Monday through Friday

  • CPR certification (we will reimburse you if you don’t have it yet)

  • Fluent in verbal and written Spanish and English is a plus!

  • Some state and federal laws may require Ascend to mandate employee vaccination. Must be able to furnish proof of vaccination or be willing to seek weekly testing for COVID-19 if laws in your area require Ascend to mandate vaccination. Ascend Behavior Partners will engage in the interactive process if a request is made for a verifiable medical or religious exemption.

  • Able to pass a background check, reference check and qualified to work in the US

  • Meet physical requirements of this position which include but are not limited to lifting at least 50 pounds, floor play, running, finger dexterity, climbing, and standing for long periods. Perhaps jumping on a trampoline, dancing, and being an acrobatic all-star (you never know what your day will bring)

The Benefits

  • Paid Time off and Sick Time off, as well as paid holidays (including your birthday!)

  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance for you and your dependents

  • A commitment to employee and patient health and safety (COVID-19 procedures)

  • Discounts on Pet Insurance

  • Volunteer Time off and Paid Sabbatical for tenured employees

  • 401k with up to 4% matching for all employees

  • Unlimited access to free virtual healthcare options through HealthiestYou for you and your family! Including mental health services, dermatology, nutrition, and so much more!

The quick FAQ:

  • How quickly will I hear back after I apply? *We are a Responsive Employer* - we will be in touch with you within 24 hours of applying*

  • Do I need prior experience with kids? Yes! We are looking for individuals who have experience with younger age children, supporting them with communication or behavioral needs, in a professional setting. Experience providing ABA Therapy is preferred.

  • What is my earning potential? Your starting pay depends on your experience, and may be anywhere from $21-$27/hr. Our monthly training, weekly overlaps, and valuable feedback are designed to support you and provide opportunities to earn up to an additional $4/hour within the first year. In addition, Ascend provides opportunities beyond that to earn additional raises through career development and annual reviews.

  • Is this Full-Time (FT) or Part-Time (PT)? We are hiring for both, depending on location!

  • When do I need to be available? Consistently available for a Monday through Friday schedule for both Full Time and Part Time roles within the following hours: FT: 8:00 AM-5:30 PM PT: Either 8:00 AM-1:00 PM or 12:00 PM-5:30 PM (M-F)

  • What does growth look like for me? Level up five times in this role, become a Lead Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or join one of our support teams!

  • How does Ascend protect the mental health of Ascenders? We offer access to free mental health resources to be your HealthiestYou. We celebrate PTO use and give you the weekends to recharge.
