The Field Service Engineer (FSE) is essential in sustaining long-term customer success with Beckhoff technologies. By keeping systems running smoothly, responsively addressing complex challenges in the field, and building trust through reliable, ongoing support, FSEs strengthen and expand customer relationships. With firsthand visibility into system performance and customer sentiment, they are often the first to surface risks or uncover new opportunities, playing a critical role in sustaining long-term customer satisfaction and loyalty.

FSEs are practical engineers who address urgent technical issues through phone, email, and onsite support. They work closely with Sales and Application Engineering teams to ensure continuity and responsiveness across the region. Beyond immediate troubleshooting, FSEs contribute to scalable support by documenting recurring issues, sharing field-proven practices, and helping internal teams stay ahead of customer needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the strategic technical support contact within the region, working closely with teammates to help customers keep Beckhoff systems running reliably.
  • Proactively drive technical issues to resolution through on-site support, hands-on troubleshooting, and remote diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with regional field team to understand and assist in the execution of regional and territory strategies.
  • Advise customers on maintenance, best practices, and product usage in real-world conditions.
  • Document recurring issues and share actionable insights to strengthen internal support resources and product knowledge.
  • As needed, assist with product trainings or onboarding in alignment with Beckhoff’s formal training programs.

What We’re Looking For – Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Customer-facing communication and judgment

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or a related technical field from a four-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Practical experience with programming languages such as IEC 61131-3 (object-oriented extension), C#, C++, Javascript/Typescript; familiarity with object-oriented concepts preferred
  • Experience designing, programming, and troubleshooting of systems based on TwinCAT & EtherCAT strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with browser-based HMI platforms (TwinCAT HMI or similar)
  • Comfort in basic configuration and troubleshooting of Unix-based operating systems
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, motion control, robotics, distributed I/O, fieldbus systems (e.g., EtherCAT), and HMI technologies
  • Proficient with Windows-based systems and industrial networking concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills, with the ability to stay composed and effective in time-sensitive situations
  • Strong and clear communication skills for delivering technical guidance via phone, email, and in-person support


Work Location

This position follows a hybrid work model. Based in our Atlanta, GA office, you'll split time between customer site visits, remote troubleshooting, and office collaboration. Office attendance is flexible based on business needs and travel schedules.


Travel

This position requires willingness to travel on short notice. Plan for 50%+ travel, which may include day trips, overnight stays, and occasional extended travel depending on business needs. Travel may be local, regional, or national. All travel-related expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
