The Role :
The Manager in Training (MIT) is a developing store leader who is building the skills and experience needed to lead store operations, support team performance, and deliver outstanding guest experience. Through hands-on training and increasing responsibility, the MIT learns to support Wicked Awesome Customer Service (WACS), Clean and Bright Stores (CABS), and FREDDY (Fresh, Delicious, and Ready) standards across retail, kitchen, and fueling operations.
Working alongside the General Manager and store leadership team, the MIT develops proficiency in store operations, team leadership, foodservice execution, merchandising, and financial administration while demonstrating readiness for increased responsibility and future advancement.
Progress in the Manager in Training role is measured through successful completion of training requirements, demonstrated proficiency in store operations, application of leadership skills, increasing independence in assigned responsibilities, and readiness for advancement into store leadership roles.

Store Operations & Guest Experience
  • Support consistent execution of WACS, CABS, and FREDDY standards.
  • Learn and perform key store functions across retail, kitchen, and fueling operations.
  • Practice maintaining a visible and active presence on the sales floor to support team members, guests, and daily store execution.
  • Develop the skills needed to communicate priorities and support daily operational execution.
  • Develop skills in resolving guest questions and concerns with urgency, ownership, and guidance from store leadership when appropriate.
  • Learn and follow safety, security, emergency, food handling, environmental, and regulatory procedures.
  • Support merchandising, pricing, promotional programs, and inventory activities to ensure the store remains clean, organized, and guest-ready.

Financial & Administrative Development
  • Learn and follow cash handling, documentation, and reporting procedures.
  • Participate in labor, inventory, and expense management activities to develop an understanding of store performance drivers.
  • Learn how product mix, ordering, waste, and inventory controls impact sales, margins, and overall store performance, and develop the skills needed to manage these areas effectively.
  • Develop routines for reviewing daily and shift reports while learning operational and financial performance measures.
  • Observe and participate in inventory discrepancy review processes with store leadership and the Store Auditor to develop proficiency in inventory accuracy and reporting practices.
  • Develop proficiency in conducting required inventory counts, including cigarettes, lottery, and other high-value items.
  • Learn fuel pricing procedures and the role competitive pricing plays in store performance.
  • Gain proficiency in scheduling, timekeeping, payroll administration, and workforce planning processes using company systems, including Paylocity.

Execution, Compliance & Store Standards
  • Support daily store operations by working alongside team members and store leadership.
  • Develop proficiency in foodservice operations, including food preparation, food safety, quality, presentation, ordering, receiving, storage, and replenishment practices.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, bright, safe, and guest-ready store environment.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Develop proficiency in completing required reports, logs, certifications, and operational documentation accurately and on time.
  • Demonstrate increasing independence and readiness to assume additional responsibilities as training milestones are achieved.

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and motor vehicle record compliant with Beck Supplier's insurance requirements
  • Demonstrated success in a multi-unit leadership role within a retail, restaurant, or other customer-facing environment, with responsibility for store performance, staffing, and operational execution
  • Proven ability to coach and develop store leaders, build high-performing teams, and foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
  • Ability to interpret business data and financial reports, identify performance gaps, and translate insights into actionable plans to achieve district goals
  • Experience managing P&L performance, including labor matrix/weekly schedule, inventory, and controllable expenses, while improving customer satisfaction and team engagement
  • Comfortable leading through change with flexibility, clear communication, and a solution-oriented mindset
  • Preferred:
  • Experience specifically in convenience retail or fuel service operations
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in business, management, or a related field
  • Track record of designing or contributing to leadership development programs or succession planning efforts
