Project Overview:
Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.
Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline
Job Summary:
The Continuous Improvement Manager (LCM) will report to the Project Quality Manager (PQM) and will be responsible for leading continuous improvement initiatives on the project. The LCM will support the PQM to develop and deliver a project customized continuous improvement program, including a risk-based strategy that meets project goals and objectives, including alignment, prioritizing, scheduling, training, metrics/dashboards, PBQ, LL, Causal Analysis, Six Sigma, and tracking progress of improvement initiatives. The LCM will apply leadership skills, knowledge, experience, and tools (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, behavioral and facilitation techniques) to close gaps and invest in opportunities, resulting in institutionalized changes that measurably improve efficiency, productivity, and quality across the project. The LCM will be responsible for using data to measure and report project performance, and ensure improvements are institutionalized. The LCM will lead teams through the CI process to solve problems and make fact-based decisions to deliver right the first-time quality. Facilitate resolution of issues, improvements, and opportunities across all functions within the project team. The LCM will lead continuous improvement efforts, be a key technical resource partner for the project team, resulting in improved project performance. #LI-SM2
Major Responsibilities:
  • Support the PQM in developing and implementing a continuous improvement program and risk-based strategy to meet project goals and objectives, including alignment, prioritizing, scheduling, training, metrics/dashboards, PBQ, LL, Causal Analysis, Six Sigma, and tracking progress of improvement initiatives.
  • Manage and supervise a CI team in performing Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Manages the project corrective action system. Prepares reports on the effectiveness of the continuous improvement program implementation.
  • Communicates with other Functions and project personnel to ensure continuous improvement goals and objectives are met.
  • Scope, plan, select the appropriate CI tools.
  • Analyze data from processes and metrics across projects and functions.
  • Conduct data analysis and develop performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of improvement initiatives and identify areas for further improvement.
  • Monitor and use outputs from metrics to drive CI activities.
  • Develop Quality incident OOM criteria for selecting appropriate causal analysis tool (RCAs - 5 Whys), and facilitate causal analysis activities.
  • Utilize causal analysis tools to facilitate and lead apparent cause evaluations and root cause analysis.
  • Develop and facilitate approved workshops and training sessions to educate employees on continuous improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Provides input into the development of standardized performance indicators for the project.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the project.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Recognized Six Sigma Black Belt (certified).
  • Experience with continuously improving Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Operations work processes and business areas; or advanced experience optimizing complex industrial processes, systems or organizations.
  • Extensive experience supervising direct reports.
  • Experience achieving measurable continuous improvement results through influence management, soft skills in a leadership position with ability to achieve change and results by shaping the attitudes and viewpoints of individuals and teams.
  • Trained in Kaizen and / or Lean methodologies.
  • Trained in team facilitation techniques.
  • Trained in Causal Analysis techniques.
  • Experience applying a structured approach to process analysis and problem solving.
  • Experience establishing, monitoring, and analyzing data and reporting results to PQM and other management..
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC computer, Microsoft software, database administration, Visio (or equivalent) and Minitab.
  • Must be a U.S Citizen. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
