Chief of Staff

Ema

San Francisco, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

About Ema
Ema is building the world's leading Agentic AI platform to transform enterprise productivity. We enable organizations to delegate repetitive tasks to Ema, the Universal AI Employee, delivering 10x gains in workforce efficiency, across functions. Founded by former executives from Google, Coinbase, Flipkart, and Okta, our team includes engineers from premier tech companies and graduates of Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, CMU, and IITs.
We are backed by industry leading investors including Accel, Naspers/Prosus, Section32, and angels like Sheryl Sandberg and Dustin Moskovitz. Headquartered in Silicon Valley and with offices in London, Bangalore and Vancouver, Ema is at the frontier of what Agentic AI can do in production - we ship real systems that run real business processes at scale.
Role Overview
As Chief of Staff to the CEO, you will be the strategic nerve center of the entire company - a true force-multiplier to Surojit Chatterjee (ex CPO Coinbase, VP Products at Google). Reporting directly to the CEO and based in Mountain View, CA (full co-location required), you will own the translation of the CEO's vision across Sales, Product, and the full organizational agenda - serving as connective tissue between the CEO and every critical function: EPD, GTM, Finance, HR, Legal, and the Board.
This is a senior operating role for someone who has already done it - led strategy at scale, driven GTM at a high-growth technology company, and earned their stripes as an Engagement Manager or Associate Principal at a top-tier consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) before stepping into industry. You are not here to learn the ropes; you are here to pull them.
Ema is backed by top-tier investors (Accel, Section 32, and Prosus) and is building the Universal AI Employee for enterprises worldwide. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role at one of the most consequential AI companies in the world.
Key Responsibilities
CEO Leverage & Executive Operations
  • Serve as Surojit's strategic right hand across all priorities - owning, not supporting.
  • Drive the operating cadence of the CEO office: weekly leadership reviews, board prep, OKR tracking, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Ensure the CEO's time and energy are ruthlessly directed at the highest-leverage decisions.
  • Represent the CEO at key internal forums, external events, media appearances, and conferences.
Sales & GTM Acceleration
  • Partner directly with the CEO to shape and run the global sales organization.
  • Lead pipeline reviews, go-to-market planning, and sales velocity analysis with the authority and fluency of someone who has done it before.
  • Drive revenue team accountability - you will be in the room, on the hook, and expected to have a point of view.
Corporate & Business Strategy
  • Synthesize customer insights, competitive intelligence, and internal signals into crisp strategic recommendations for the CEO and Board.
  • Drive product reviews, roadmap prioritization forums, and cross-functional alignment between EPD and GTM.
  • Partner with COO to drive the company's strategic planning process end-to-end: quarterly planning, competitive positioning, market entry, and M&A or partnership evaluation.
Investor Relations & Fundraising
  • Own the infrastructure for investor engagement: LP updates, board materials, due diligence coordination, and fundraising logistics.
  • Serve as the operational backbone behind Ema's next chapter of financing.
Organizational Excellence & Internal Functions
  • Act as the CEO's proxy in driving key cross-functional initiatives across HR, Finance, Legal, and Compliance.
  • Partner with functional leaders to move initiatives from strategic discussion to operational execution.
  • Help scale Ema as an AI-first, high-performance organization - building the systems and structures that will carry us to the next stage.
Special Projects & Zero-to-One Initiatives
  • Own high-impact, first-of-their-kind projects at the CEO's direction: new market entry, strategic partnerships, executive hiring, or anything else that requires a seasoned generalist who can move fast and get things right.

What You Bring
  • 10+ years of total experience, including a meaningful tenure (3-6 years) at a top-tier consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) at the Engagement Manager / Associate Principal level - you owned workstreams end-to-end, not just supported them.
  • Subsequent senior role(s) at a high-growth technology company, with direct ownership of corporate strategy, business strategy, or GTM strategy - not just advisory or support functions.
  • MBA from a top-tier institution.
  • Proven track record in a Founder's Office, Strategy & Ops, or Chief of Staff capacity at a scaling technology company.
  • Deep fluency in Sales and GTM: you understand how enterprise deals are won, lost, and accelerated.
  • Product mindset with the ability to leverage AI tools - you use AI to build workflows, tools, and automations that eliminate operational drag.
  • Low ego, high impact: you move seamlessly from board deck to hiring process to investor update, and you are energized, not exhausted, by the context-switching.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Mountain View, CA (full co-location with CEO required).
  • Comfortable operating across time zones with senior leaders; a relentless owner who thrives in ambiguity and moves with urgency.

For California based candidates:
The standard base salary for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 annually.
Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
