Job description

About magniX: Based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, magniX builds solutions for the electric age, applying its aerospace-grade batteries, power electronics, power distribution, electric engines, and software to mission-critical applications across data centers, energy storage, defense, mobility, space, and aerospace. Built on an 800-volt architecture, magniX technology delivers industry-leading energy density, cycle life, and safety, and magniX electric engines have powered more than 200 flights across six different airframes, where the company remains the industry leader. As magniX extends its aerospace-grade standards into new markets, we are building a commercial organization to match, and are now ready to take our technology and products to market. Be part of a passionate team that is ushering in the electric age.

About the role: magniX is building a small, cross-functional team to develop a new 800V battery-based power supply and backup system for datacenter compute racks, drawing on the company's deep bench of electric propulsion battery and power electronics expertise. The Battery Systems Engineer owns the design of a new 800V stationary battery pack and energy storage system for datacenter backup power, leveraging magniX's high-voltage battery engineering expertise. They will define the pack architecture, cell configuration, and battery management system for a continuous, high-uptime duty cycle, built from the ground up for stationary energy storage standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design a new battery pack (cell chemistry selection, module and pack architecture, BMS) purpose-built for a continuous, high-uptime datacenter duty cycle.
  • Define cycle life, calendar life, and thermal management targets appropriate for continuous or near-continuous stationary operation.
  • Define pack-level safety architecture aligned with stationary storage standards (e.g., UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855).
  • Work with the Mechanical/Thermal Engineer to design the pack for a datacenter rack or adjacent enclosure form factor.
  • Define BMS requirements and interfaces to the power converter and rack-level controls.
  • Support test planning and execution for pack-level validation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years in battery pack or BMS design.
  • Experience with high-voltage (400V+) lithium-ion battery pack design, including module architecture and BMS integration.
  • Working knowledge of battery safety and abuse testing principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with stationary energy storage systems and associated certification standards (UL 9540/9540A).
  • Experience developing a battery system from early concept through a first production design.
  • Familiarity with NMC/Si or similar high-energy-density cell chemistries.

Location: Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 100% company-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance (for employees & dependents).
  • 4 weeks paid vacation + 1-week annual end-of-year shutdown, sick time, and 11 paid holidays.
  • 401K retirement plan with industry leading 9.5% company contribution.
  • Company paid Life insurance, AD&D, Short-Term and Long-Term disability insurance
  • Catered lunches and quarterly company fun-day events!

Salary Range: $120k-$185k
