Job description

About the Role & Team:

As a Mechanical Engineer - Battery System, you will be an integral part of the team driving the development of next-generation high-voltage (HV) battery systems. Your work will directly impact product safety, performance, and reliability. The team is responsible for battery pack structural and thermal system design, design validation, and final release for manufacturing and vehicle integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and release mechanical components of the HV battery pack, including enclosures, subcomponent mounting structures, and vehicle interfaces.
  2. Create and manage 2D and 3D CAD drawings of battery pack assemblies and components, including wire harnesses and brackets.
  3. Develop part and assembly models using appropriate Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  4. Work on concept development, feasibility studies, and packaging studies.
  5. Conduct DFMEA and PFMEA to identify potential failure modes and drive design improvements.
  6. Collaborate with CAE and testing teams to ensure product designs meet performance targets.
  7. Coordinate development, assembly, and delivery of prototype battery packs, ensuring timelines and design targets are met.
  8. Perform additional engineering tasks and contribute to cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
  9. Work closely with supply chain and supplier quality teams to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components, including required testing and validation.
  10. Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  2. 3+ years of experience in HV battery design, automotive product design, or relevant industries.
  3. Strong proficiency in CAD software (preferably CATIA V5 or V6).
  4. Experience in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA), including processes like extrusion, stamping, and casting.
  5. Solid understanding of various materials and mechanical joining techniques.
  6. Proven problem-solving skills and ability to execute contingency plans when needed.
  7. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  8. Excellent communication skills - verbal, written, and presentation (English).
  9. Project management experience and ability to lead cross-functional efforts.
  10. Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment and build consensus.
  11. Fully understand and abide by the contents of Code of Conduct distributed by Gotion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with cell-to-pack (CTP) or cell-to-chassis (CTC) battery architecture.
  2. Hands-on knowledge of battery modules, and pack design.
  3. Familiarity with thermal systems and battery enclosure sealing methods.
