POSITION SUMMARY

HASI is currently seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join the Investment Team. This individual will support the Fuels, Transport, & Nature ("FTN") group within the broader Investment Team.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES   

Investing Activities

  • Support transaction and due diligence processes for debt/equity investments in areas such as Renewable Natural Gas ("RNG") and other clean fuels, fleet electrification/EV charging infrastructure, battery manufacturing, and sustainable agriculture (among others)
  • Analyze terms in underlying project agreements with a high degree of detail orientation to validate key assumptions
  • Build and manage financial models, including underlying project operating proformas, to analyze and structure investments and evaluate associated risks
  • Develop management presentations for internal committees process
  • Work closely with lean deal team to drive all facets of investment execution, from initial qualification evaluation, term sheet development, internal investment proposal, due diligence, and documentation closing
  • Play an active role as a respected influencer in mentoring and developing junior talent
  • Support transaction and due diligence processes for debt/equity investments and acquisition activity, including analyzing terms in underlying project agreements which may impact economic returns (i.e. operating agreements, financing agreements, and power offtake agreements)
  • Work closely with cross-functional finance team (Investment Group, accounting, and engineering) to develop appropriate assumptions for project investment models
  • Develop and understand portfolio diversification or concentration considerations to evaluate and manage the associated risks
  • Work closely with the Investment Group in all facets of investment execution, from initial qualification evaluation, term sheet development, internal investment proposal, due diligence, and documentation closing

 

Portfolio Management

  • Work closely with the members of the Portfolio Management and risk management teams to provide specific investment expertise to assist in commercial decision making relating to portfolio assets

Specific Recommended Knowledge and Experience

  • Very strong MS Excel financial modeling and data mining skills, with demonstrable experience developing and managing complex financial models
  • Very strong skills in preparing management presentations for the approval of transactions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Relevant industry experience in energy, banking, tax equity/equity investing, consulting or the energy/utilities sector
  • Familiarity with energy project finance transactions and documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (to include listening)
  • Dependable and reliable, excellent at taking initiative, can work independently without close supervision, and be a supportive team member

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution; CFA and/or MBA preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in finance in the renewable energy sector, ideally including project finance and structured debt or equity finance
  • Experience in modelling, ideally involving structured debt and equity investments, including intimate knowledge of tax equity partnership flip and lease models for wind and solar assets
  • Demonstrable experience with renewable energy project underwriting and transaction document negotiation
$120,000 - $155,000 a year
Salary RangeThe expected base salary range of $120,000-$155,000 will be based on experience and location. In addition, HASI offers an annual bonus program; 401(k) with company match; an equity incentive program; comprehensive medical, dental and vision benefits; paid time off for vacation, holidays, and sick days; and much more.
