Job description

This position may be filled at the Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal level, depending on the candidate's qualifications, technical depth, and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the system-level technical lead for high-voltage battery development and integration.
  • Translate vehicle and customer requirements into battery-system and subsystem requirements across cell, mechanical, electrical, thermal, BMS interfaces, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Own requirement decomposition, allocation, traceability, verification, and system-level change impact.
  • Define and integrate battery performance targets, including energy, power, voltage, current, charging, temperature, aging, and safety limits.
  • Lead cross-functional architecture and technical trade studies across performance, safety, durability, packaging, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Integrate inputs from Cell, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, CAE, Validation, Manufacturing, and customer engineering teams into a consistent system solution that meets customer requirements.
  • Lead the technical interface with BMS and controls teams for battery operating limits, capability maps, sensing, diagnostics, protection thresholds, and other constraints.
  • Lead system DFMEA, technical risk reviews, and system-level design reviews.
  • Define system verification methods and support DVP&R and validation planning.
  • Analyze cell, pack, BMS, simulation, test, and vehicle data to identify system limitations and root causes.
  • Lead cross-functional technical issue resolution and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Ensure consistency between customer specifications, Gotion requirements, design releases, validation plans, and production-intent configurations.
  • Support vehicle launch, production ramp-up, and field issue resolution.
  • Help establish battery systems engineering practices and mentor engineers across programs.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in EV batteries, high-voltage battery systems, electrified powertrains, or related automotive systems.
  • Strong understanding of HV battery architecture, including cells, pack mechanical systems, HV/LV electrical systems, thermal management, charging, BMS interfaces, and vehicle integration.
  • Demonstrated experience translating vehicle or OEM requirements into battery-system requirements and technical targets.
  • Strong understanding of battery performance and the interaction between cell capability, voltage, current, SOC, temperature, aging, thermal performance, and vehicle demand.
  • Proven ability to integrate multiple engineering disciplines and make sound system-level technical decisions.
  • Experience with requirements, architecture, validation, vehicle integration, or technical issue resolution for complex automotive systems.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, data-analysis, and root-cause capability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with OEM engineering organizations.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience with major EV or automotive OEM battery programs.
  • Experience at an OEM, battery manufacturer, automotive Tier 1, or EV technology company.
  • Experience with BMS hardware and software interfaces.
  • Familiarity with battery capability maps, power limits, charging limits, DVP&R, DFMEA, ISO 26262, and requirements-management tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
