Job description

Battery Cell Process Engineer - (Entry Level)
The Battery Cell Process Engineer will provide hands-on support for laboratory-scale battery cell development and prototyping activities. Services will focus on assisting senior process and cell design engineers with pilot-line operations, pouch cell assembly, process improvement, equipment upkeep, and quality control for experimental battery builds.
Services:
• Support laboratory-scale pouch cell production, including slurry preparation, electrode coating, calendaring, slitting or die cutting, stacking, tab attachment, pouch sealing, electrolyte introduction, and cell formation.
• Operate, inspect, calibrate, and maintain pilot-line equipment, tooling, dry-room environments, glove boxes, and related fabrication systems.
• Assist with Design of Experiments (DOEs) to evaluate process variables and improve cell consistency, yield, uniformity, and performance.
• Conduct in-process quality checks, including electrode thickness, coating or loading consistency, component alignment, and pouch seal integrity, and record results in applicable tracking systems.
• Investigate common fabrication issues, such as coating defects, delamination, misalignment, incomplete wetting, and sealing problems, and support corrective actions under senior engineering guidance.
• Maintain accurate assembly travelers, process records, equipment logs, SOPs, safety documentation, and other technical documentation for new materials, chemistries, and cell formats.
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least one year of hands-on experience with laboratory battery manufacturing, pilot-line equipment, or pouch cell assembly.
• Experience working in laboratory, cleanroom, dry-room, or glove-box environments while handling chemicals, battery materials, and mechanical assembly tools.
• Familiarity with lithium-ion cell manufacturing processes, such as slurry preparation, electrode coating, calendaring, stacking, electrolyte filling, and sealing.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and adherence to laboratory, hazardous-material, and safety procedures.
Pluses:
• Experience with pouch cell assembly equipment, including tab welding, electrolyte filling, and pouch sealing systems.
• Familiarity with SPC, yield tracking, process data analysis, and tools such as Python, MATLAB, JMP, or Excel.
• Understanding of how variation in upstream manufacturing steps can affect cell quality and electrochemical performance.
