Job Description:Responsible for removal defense and visiting the Detention Centers in Baton Rouge

Immigration Attorney - Removal Defense

Location:Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Firm:C.R. Wannamaker Law PLLC

Position Overview

C.R. Wannamaker Law PLLC is seeking an experienced and motivated Immigration Attorney to join our team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This attorney will focus primarily on removal defense and represent clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), including Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). The position requiresregular travel to and in-person representation at immigration detention centers throughout Louisiana, as well as court appearances and client advocacy outside of detention.

The ideal candidate is passionate about immigrant advocacy, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling complex litigation matters in both detained and non-detained settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before Immigration Court

  • Conduct regular visits to immigration detention centers in Louisiana to meet with detained clients, prepare cases, and appear at hearings as required

  • Prepare and argue motions, briefs, and appeals, including BIA filings

  • Conduct master calendar and individual hearings, including detained dockets

  • Develop case strategy for asylum, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, waivers, bond hearings, and related relief

  • Interview clients in-office and in detention facilities; prepare supporting evidence and affidavits

  • Maintain accurate and timely case documentation

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding case status and legal options

  • Collaborate with legal staff and attorneys across the firm as needed

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

  • Active bar membership in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction)

  • Admission to practice before EOIR (or eligibility to obtain promptly)

  • Prior experience in removal defense and immigration court strongly preferred

  • Willingness and ability totravel regularly to immigration detention centers

  • Spanish fluency preferred

  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload effectively

  • Commitment to client advocacy and ethical practice

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with asylum and complex removal defense cases, including detained matters

  • Fluency in additional languages a plus

  • Familiarity with immigration case management systems

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment
