NOTICE OF VACANCY
POSITION: VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH - BOYS
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior basketball coaching experience.
  • Exhibit high moral and ethical conduct and display a positive value system consistent with the codes and policies of CHS and the MHSAA as a role model and mentor for the student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the sport regarding strategy and player development.
  • Must be able to teach/convey the individual skillsets of the game, and the team aspects and strategies of the game to build and improve player/team proficiency and success.
  • Display good judgment in dealing with parents, team, administration, the community, and the media, and display good team-building skills within these groups.
  • Develop a program that is immersed in the vision of the athletic department in terms of developing the student-athlete as a whole and the department as a whole.
  • Communicate and work effectively with district coaches, staff members, and the athletic director.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the time commitment/availability level of the position.
  • As basketball is a game of measured failures, the ideal candidate must possess and demonstrate the ability to deal with such failures and teach both the coaching staff and players how to do the same constructively.
  • Fulfill CPS and MHSAA requirements upon hire.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior varsity coaching experience in an educational environment.
  • Basketball player experience at least at the varsity high school level (post-HS experience a plus).
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success developing basketball player skillsets at all positions, building team chemistry, and forming a successful basketball program.
  • Teacher certification is not required; however, it helps create full-time employment and may be coupled with a teaching position if applicable.
  • Willingness to work as a part-time or full-time employee of the district.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and success with problem resolution skills, creating and effectively delegating responsibilities to the assistant coaching staff, and building a JV coaching staff with goals consistent with the varsity program.
  • Ability to maximize team needs/wants list for equipment, within the bounds of the school budget, and make reasonable recommendations to the AD for facility/equipment needs, maintenance/repairs, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The coach shall be directly responsible to the Athletic Director for the administration, supervision, and evaluation of matters pertaining to Centreville's high school basketball program. He/she is responsible for the team's success with regard to the development, organization, coordination, and interpretation of the team's activities and functions.
SALARY: As per contract.
