Job description

The Academy Coach will develop U8-U14 youth Basketball players at the YMCA of Central Texas in accordance with the mission, values and values of our association. The Academy Coach is expected to deliver quality sports guidance and education to young athletes within the Y Basketball Academy program, and help those players realize their development potential. Must have college or elite level coaching experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • High School Diploma/GED, some college preferred
  • 1-5+ Years of coaching experience required
  • Base level to top level certification by and member of National Agency in related field
  • Coaching in a high-performance senior environment in a US based competition OR Coaching in a college environment 3-5+ years preferred
  • Elite Development Experience preferred
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License and show proof of insurability while maintaining a driver record that is satisfactory with Y standards
  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certification

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to conduct weekly organized training sessions with a focus on player development.
  • Participate in player evaluations and scrimmages to determine appropriate team placement/assignments.
  • Coach weekend league games, and tournaments when scheduled, with an emphasis on development and teaching the game.
  • Conduct parent meetings in order to distribute important season/team information
  • Maintain a positive relationship with players parents, with an emphasis on communication
  • Ability to attract, maintain, lead and motivate quality staff and volunteer leadership
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Ability to be an articulate spokesperson for the Association and the YMCA movement as a whole
  • Knowledge and understanding of community resources and how to relate these to maximize their utilization to the help the YMCA meet goals
  • Commitment to the purpose of the YMCA of Central Texas
  • Enthusiasm, high energy and exceptional human relations and motivational skills
  • Exhibit ability to lead within the organization (both Staff and Volunteers)
