JOB SUMMARY:
The Salt Lake City Stars Basketball Communications Associate role is an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the professional sports public relations industry. The position will interact with members of the media, as well as various departments within the Stars organization to assist with the overall public and community relations efforts of the team. Below is a brief outline of the job responsibilities for the internship:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Stars PR staff in all aspects of the team's media and community relations efforts
  • Produce assigned team publications (cover sheets and game notes)
  • Track team statistics and player accolades
  • Distribute media credentials for each home game at credential table
  • Assist with setup/breakdown of press room on game days at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, UT.
  • Distribute scores and stats to media during games
  • Write game recaps post game
  • Assist with Stars events (community events and player appearances, etc.)
  • Work select Utah Jazz games as a Communications Game Night staffer
  • Handle confidential information in a professional manner
  • Protect the reputation of the company
  • Exemplify the Utah Jazz mission and values: transparent, all in, community obsessed, one team, and scrappy
  • Accept other duties, as assigned

COMPETENCIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must live within a commutable distance from the Salt Lake City area
  • Must have knowledge of sports communications or public relations (can be working towards degree)
  • Must be available to work all Stars home games
  • Must have advanced knowledge of basketball statistics and terminology
  • Must have strong writing skills
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, internet and social media
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be able to come to work promptly and regularly
  • Must be able to take direction and work well with others
  • Must be hardworking and willing to go the extra mile

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to lift 30 lbs.
