WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Machine Operator is primarily responsible for efficiently operating packaging machinery to produce various products according to customer specifications.
Essential functions

  • Read and understand daily production schedule and material requirements.
  • Transport needed packaging materials to production area.
  • Set-up and operate packaging equipment with correct materials and product based on order specifications. Safely and efficiently stack finished product where required.
  • Meet daily production requirements.
  • Perform periodic quality control checks to ensure product is packaged according to customer requirements (including checking end and back seals, and date codes).
  • Perform efficient and timely change overs of product varieties; must follow pre-set guidelines and change out filtering screens based on product variety/size. Set, adjust and periodically check the flow of product through a foreign materials machine. Check magnet for any foreign materials and document and report as required.
  • Accurately complete and maintain required documentation on product, materials/supplies, output and machine downtime.
  • Troubleshoot minor packaging problems and make appropriate adjustments on equipment.
  • Communicate with management and maintenance personnel on a timely basis to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
  • Comply with company safety policies and maintain clean and orderly work area.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Production Manager, Production Lead or other members of management.

WHAT WE NEED
MUST-HAVES:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills including touch screens.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Must be able to meet daily production requirements.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must display a positive attitude and work well with all levels of employees whether individually or in a team environment.
  • Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.
  • Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.

NICE-TO-HAVES:
  • 1+ years in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 50 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to dust and loud noise.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net, and food safety-related items, is required.
