Job description

Job Title: Baseball Instructor - Part-Time / Non-Exempt
Reports To: Facility Manager
Employment Type: Part-time
ComEd Recreational Center is looking for an experienced and motivated coaches to lead programming in Children's Athletes department at our clubs. You will call the plays, encourage development and learning, and above all, ensure our members and their kids have the best sports experience. As a ComEd Recreational Center Coach you will live by part of our culture to Inspire, Teach and Motivate or members. The PT Baseball Instructor position is year-round.
Essential Job Functions Include:
  • Lead, implement, and instruct small teams of young players during practices, games, and scrimmages, ensuring a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Design and deliver age-appropriate baseball drills to enhance player development in fundamental skills, technique, and teamwork.
  • Foster a team-oriented mindset and encourage individual growth, both on and off the field.
  • Assume responsibility for managing a designated area of the field during practices and games, ensuring safe and effective use of space.
  • Supervise players' activities to ensure proper technique and sportsmanship are demonstrated during practice sessions and competitive play.
  • Assist with officiating and ensuring fair play in games, providing support to game officials when needed.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety and security guidelines to ensure the well-being of players, staff, and spectators.
  • Uphold the organization's policies on field safety, equipment usage, and player conduct.
  • Serve as a positive role model for players and staff, demonstrating excellent attitude, work ethic, and sportsmanship at all times.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with players, parents, staff, and community members, maintaining a respectful and supportive demeanor.
  • Promote the importance of personal responsibility, teamwork, and integrity, both on and off the field.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for fostering positive environments and enriching experiences for children, ensuring their growth both athletically and personally.
  • Committed to encouraging children's self-confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship through engaging and supportive coaching practices.
  • Possess experience working with children across various age groups, understanding their developmental needs and tailoring instruction accordingly.
  • Adapt teaching methods to engage children with different learning styles, ensuring each player feels supported and challenged.
  • Ideal candidates include graduating seniors and college students with a background in athletics and/or team sports, demonstrating a deep understanding of teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
  • Ability to relate personal athletic experience to coaching practices, offering insight into the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and goal setting for young players.

Sports Specific Experience
  • Intercollegiate, intramural, and/or high school experience
  • Experience playing and/or coaching one or more of the following sports: soccer, baseball/softball, basketball, football, and fitness.
  • Flexible, takes direction and has initiative, and is comfortable in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Summer Camp experience a plus.

Qualifications: The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess current Red Cross CPR certification.
Hours: This position requires the ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays. This position is year-round.
