Job description
This shoreside job primarily involves oversight of the safe and efficient loading and discharging of oil, refined and petrochemical cargoes from and to assigned barges. The position does not require service as a crew member on any specific barge or vessel.
Responsibilities- Preparing assigned barges to include completion of loading and discharging of oil, refined cargoes.
- Communicating with dock personnel to ensure that each person participating in the transfer of product understands what the product is and how it should be transferred and protected.
- Handle lines for undocking/docking activities.
- Assist in training new personnel
- Ability to use firefighting/spill containment equipment
- All other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a valid Merchant Mariner's Credential (MMC) with a PIC (Person-In-Charge)
- Current Medical Certificate
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles
- Ability to pass certification requirements of 46 CFR Part 197 Subpart C on benzene regulations

Physical Activities & Requirements:
- Subject to a physical examination and drug test by a Kirby Corporation-appointed physician
- Ability to walk 2-3 miles per day
- Ability to step vertical heigh differential approximately two feet vertical and two feet horizontal
- Ability to step across, up, down, or over an obstacle to gain access to docks from the barge to the boat or from boat to the dock
- Ability to extend arms fully, throughout a normal range of motion both in a horizontal and vertical plane
- Ability to throw and catch lines
- Ability to climb 25-30 feet, 90-degree vertical ladder
- Ability to lift approximately 60-75 pounds and carry it approximately 500 feet
- Ability to pass pulmonary function test with a minimum score of 80% with physician's approval
- Ability to perform all duties while wearing personal protective equipment
Working Conditions:
- Work Monday through Friday, 10-hour shifts and must be willing to work overtime as needed
- Primarily outdoors on barges and docks, exposed to weather conditions including temperature extremes (e.g., summer heat up to 100F, winter lows around 30F).
- Exposure to marine environments, including potential for wet/slippery surfaces, noise from barge operations, and occasional chemical exposure (mitigated by PPE).
