Job description

Position Title: Assistant Manager-Bowling Operations

Reports to: Directs work of:

General Manager All Bowling Center Personnel

Primary Purpose of Position

To assist the General Manager in the operation of the center with assigned responsibility and functions, specifically related to but not limited to maintaining a clean, courteous and profitable bowling operation while insuring compliance with legal requirements. To assume operational control of Bowling Center in the absence of the manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Direct and supervise all operations of the center when scheduled to do so, or in the absence of the General Manager

a) Be familiar with and perform all opening and closing procedures when scheduled to do so

b) Identify potential operational problems, develop and implement preventive actions

c) Handle customer complaints and problems that arise, using judgement as to which ones to refer to the General Manager

2. Assist in all phases of marketing, sales and promotion

a) Order all bowling and promotional supplies and follow up on vendor ordering

b) Work with Program Director and bartenders to coordinate lounge and bowling promotions

c) Promote and advertise league, open and tournament bowling promotions to general public and employees

3. Prepare reports, inventories, financial records and secure receipts as prescribed

a) Keep accurate inventories of all items sold and supplies used

b) Follow up on daily bar and bowling maintenance logs

c) Inform maintenance of problems needing assistance

d) Perform daily records when scheduled to do so

4. Hire, train, direct, supervise and evaluate staff performance

a) Establish or follow established company policies and procedures for customer service

b) Train and direct employees to follow company guidelines

c) Evaluate and advise employees in a timely manner

5. Have a thorough working knowledge of and when needed perform all the duties of Program Director

6. Have a basic knowledge of, and when needed, assist or temporarily perform the duties of Bartender, Customer Service Associate and Janitor

Knowledge and Skill

Must have good knowledge of business methods including financial, marketing and personnel. Knowledge of effects of alcohol on the body relative to consumption. Thorough knowledge of league and tournament bowling is essential.

Problem Solving / Decision Making

Judgement is required regularly not only in determining the methods of operation but in analysis of complex problems and interpretation of procedures. Exceptional problems are referred to a higher level usually with recommendation for solution. Under limited supervision, is responsible for assigned areas of work and for the operation of the center in the absence of the manager .
