Job description

Overview
The Senior Core Banking Application Architect serves as the technical authority for the design, integration, optimization, and ongoing evolution of Trustmark's Core Banking application environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, performance, and scalability of mission-critical lending systems while translating business objectives into effective technology solutions. Working independently and in partnership with business, technology, and vendor stakeholders, the associate leads complex application initiatives, supports enterprise integrations and conversions, resolves critical production issues, and drives continuous improvement across the Core Banking platform to support operational excellence and long-term business growth.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, configuration, and optimization of the Bank's Core Banking application environment, ensuring secure, stable, and scalable operations.
  • Provide technical ownership of foundational application components, including security controls, system configurations, transaction routing, application communications, batch processing, shared services, and JCL execution frameworks.
  • Design and implement application solutions that align business objectives, operational requirements, regulatory expectations, and enterprise technology standards.
  • Lead the evaluation, planning, testing, and implementation of software releases, upgrades, patches, security enhancements, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Architect and support integration between Core Banking applications and internal or third-party systems to ensure data integrity, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership for merger, acquisition, and conversion activities, including solution design, configuration strategy, testing oversight, and production implementation.
  • Monitor application performance, availability, resiliency, and processing efficiency; identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, and risk controls.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex production issues while providing advanced support during critical processing and posting cycles.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, technical standards, operational procedures, process flows, and knowledge-sharing resources to support effective system administration and governance.
  • Partner with business leaders, technology teams, vendors, auditors, and project stakeholders to deliver strategic initiatives and drive continuous improvement across the Core Banking platform
  • Associates are expected to perform all additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical expertise.
  • 10 years Supporting, developing, and architecting Core Banking applications within the financial services industry.
  • Proven success designing enterprise application architectures, integration strategies, and scalable technology solutions that support business and operational objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, batch-processing environments, and other technologies commonly used within Core Banking platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Core Banking operations, lending systems, transaction processing, data flows, and financial services technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership of complex application upgrades, software releases, security enhancements, platform conversions, and modernization initiatives.
  • Expertise evaluating and applying industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve application performance, resiliency, and scalability.
  • Knowledge of vendor-supported software platforms, proprietary application frameworks, and enterprise technology ecosystems.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, balance competing priorities, and influence technical decisions across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven capacity to evaluate complex business and technical challenges, develop practical solutions, and communicate recommendations effectively to technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Trustmark's Core Banking application environment and supporting technology platforms.
  • Background leading merger and acquisition conversion activities within regulated financial institutions.
  • Exposure to enterprise integration technologies, API frameworks, and modern application architecture principles.
  • Working knowledge of database administration, application performance tuning, and enterprise data management practices.
  • Proficiency in additional programming languages and legacy technologies, including Assembler.
